Abstract/Summary:
ObjectiveTo observe the effectiveness of inspiratory muscle training(IMT)on upper limb motor function and daily living ability in patients with stroke by using the Powerbreathe K5 breathing trainer.MethodsForty patients who met the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria were enrolled in the study.They were randomly divided into a combined treatment group(20patients)and a control group(20 patients).Patients in both groups received routine rehabilitation training(including neurodevelopmental facilitation technique,good limbs positioning,and daily life activity training).On the basis of receiving routine rehabilitation training,the combined treatment group also used Powerbreathe K5 breathing trainer to perform inspiratory muscle training with threshold resistance.The resistance value LOAD=30% MIP(Maximum Inspiratory Pressure).While the control group received routine rehabilitation training only.The inspiratory muscle training was performed 30 breaths one time,twice a day,and 6 days per week for a total of 8weeks.Upper limb motor function was assessed by using Brunnstrom(BN),Fugl-Meyer Assessment of motor recovery(FAM),and Motor Assessment Scale(MAS).The Modified Barthel Index(MBI)was used to evaluate daily living ability;The Powerbreathe K5 breathing trainer was used to record participants’ inspiratory muscle function indexes: inspiratory muscle strength index S-index/MIP(cmH20),Peak of Inspiratory Flow(PIF)(L/s).Besides,all indexes were evaluated by the same person before and after training.Results1)There was no significant difference in all indexes between the training group and the control group before training,which was comparable(P>0.05).2)(1)BN,FMA and MAS results: in the training group and the control group,all BN staging of upper limb and hand,FMA and MAS scores after 2 weeks,4 weeks,and 8 weeks treatment were higher than that of the time corresponding beforetreatment,treatment for 2 weeks and 4 weeks.The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).(2)The BN staging of upper limb,FMA and MAS scores after 2 weeks,4 weeks,and 8 weeks treatment of the training group were higher than those of the control group.The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The BN staging of hand after 2 weeks,4 weeks were higher than those of the control group,but there was no significant difference(P>0.05).The BN staging of hand after 8 weeks were higher than the control group.The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3)MBI scores:(1)In the training group and the control group,MBI scores after 2 weeks,4weeks,and 8 weeks treatment were higher than that of the time corresponding before treatment,treatment for 2 weeks and 4 weeks.The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).(2)The comparison between two groups,the training group was higher than the control group after 2 week,but there was no significant difference(P>0.05).the training group was higher than the control group after 4 weeks,and 8 weeks,there was a significant difference(P < 0.01).4)After training,MIP and PIF:(1)In the training group,MIP and PIF scores after 2 weeks,4 weeks,and 8weeks treatment were higher than that of the time corresponding before treatment,treatment for 2 weeks and 4 weeks.The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).But no significant difference in the control group(P>0.05).(2)Compared with the control group,the training group was higher than the control group after 2 weeks,4 weeks,and 8 weeks,there was a significant difference(P < 0.01).Conclusion1.Inspiratory muscle training after stroke can improve the patient’s inspiratory muscle function;2.Inspiratory muscle training after stroke can improve the upper limb motor function of patients;3.Inspiratory muscle training after stroke can improve patients’ daily living ability;...
