Comprehensive Evaluation Of Immediate Antipyretic Efficacy Of Massage In Children With Wind-cold Type Exogenous Fever

Objective:Estimate the trend of cooling and changes of symptoms after treating the children with wind-cold type exogenous fever with pediatric massage or ibuprofen suspension.Compare the two therapies and find their respective advantages,in order to provide theory evidence for clinical treatment and further study.Methods:In outpatient department of ZhongShan traditional Chinese medical hospital,we picked out 80 children into clinical study with randomized and controlled clinical research method according to diagnostic criteria for exogenous fever of traditional Chinese medicine and upper respiratory infection of Western medicine.The children were divided into 2 groups randomly,40 children each.The children in control group were treated wi th ibuprofen suspension,while the children in observation group were treated with pediatric massage,including three kinds of operation on face and head called Open Tianmen,Divide Kangong and Press Taiyang and three kinds of operation on hands and arms called Clear Tianheshui,Push down sanguan,Pinch and knead Ershanmen.Each child was measured body temperature before the operation and 0.5h,1h,2h,4h respectively after the treatment,while the symptoms of each child were assessed before and 4h after the treatment.We kept a record of the temperature and the symptoms,compared the changes of temperature and symptoms between the 2 groups and evaluated the effects of both treatment.We told parents of the children that they should take measures of physical cooling if the body temperature doesn' t descend.The children are permitted to take ibuprofen suspension again 8h after the treatment if body temperature is above 38.5?.They should come back or ask for nearest treatment if necessary.Results:1.Before the treatment,the body temperature and symptoms between the 2 groups both have no statistical differences(P>0.05),further comparison is allowable.2.The changes of body temperature 0.5h after the treatment between the 2 groups have no statistical differences(P>0.05).The results of control group are better 1h after the treatment in terms of the body temperature(p<0.05).The changes of body temperature 2h and 4h after the treatment between the 2 groups have no statistical differences(P>0.05).3.The body temperature of the 2 groups both decrease over time.The body temperature between the 0.5h and the 1h after the treatment decreases more quickly,while decreases slower later.In contrast,the body temperature of the children in observation group decrease steadily.4.The symptoms of the children in 2 groups all improve clearly than before,but the symptoms of the observation groups' improve much more.Conclusion:1.When it comes to antipyretic effect,pediatric massage is not worse than ibuprofen suspension.Ibuprofen suspension is more effective after taking for 0.5h and before taking for 1h,while the body temperature decrease more steadily when children are treated with pediatric massage.2.The symptoms improve more obviously when children are treated with pediatric massage,proving that pediatric massage has the advantage of comforting the children with wind-cold type exogenous fever over ibuprofen suspension.3.When the operator grasps the standard pediatric massage skill,pediatric massage can take the place of ibuprofen suspension when we need to treat children with wind-cold type exogenous fever.
