Three-dimensional digital virtual planning is a method of simulating the surgical process using a software. The computed tomography(CT)image, with high accuracy, can record the structure of the soft and hard tissue of the face completely. But there is still a lack of facial soft tissue presentation and dentition detail.Three-dimensional facial photos can not only reflect the facial shape, but also express the texture, color and even wrinkles of the facial skin accurately and fast. However,it's hard to see the deep tissue under the face.Intraoral digital scanner can get the detail of the dentition directly, which can be used in side-by-side operation with high accuracy and much convenience, reducing the errors caused by the oral cavity and the gypsum model filling process. Each of these three technology has its own advantages and limitations. So,it's necessary to put them together to produce a complete three-dimensional facial virtual model.By simulating the surgical process of the jaw, such as decomposition, movement, splicing, etc.,the postoperative appearance is predicted, the accuracy is high, and the effect is intuitive.Instead of the traditional model surgery, the digital planning can also be used to design the splint for orthognathic surgery made by the three-dimensional printing with high accuracy, which further saves the operation time. The application of Three-dimensional digital virtual planning in clinical analysis and diagnosis makes up for the shortcomings of two-dimensional analysis and provides more data and methods for clinicians.
