Objective:To compare imaging indicators and clinical effects of XLIF and OLIF using allogenic bone and recombinant human bone morphogenic protein 2(rhBMP-2)+ allogenic bone as bone graft materials in the treatment of degenerative lumbar diseases. Methods: The clinical data of 29 patients who underwent lateral lumbar interbody fusion(XLIF/OLIF)from May 2017 to December 2018 in the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University were retrospectively analyzed.Finally,24 patients were included in this study.According to the different bone graft materials, they were divided into two groups: group A(13 cases),rhBMP-2 + bone allograft group B(11 cases). There were no significant differences in gender, age, body mass index(BMI),lesion segment, preoperative intervertebral space height, preoperative Oswestry Dysfunction Index(ODI),Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)scores and Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA)between the two groups(P > 0.05).Intervertebral space height, fusion rate,Oswestry disability index(ODI),visual analogue scale(VAS)and Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA)were compared immediatelyafter surgery, and at 3 and 6 months after surgery. Results: Both groups were followed up for 6 months. The intervertebral space height was significantly higher in the two groups immediately after surgery,3 months and 6 months after surgery in comparison to before surgery(P<0.05).There was no significant differencethe intervertebral space height between the two groups immediately after surgery,3 months after surgery(P > 0.05).The height of intervertebral space was different between the two groups at 6 months. The fusion rate of group B was higher than that of group A at 3 months and 6 months after surgery. The VAS score of low back pain and leg pain,ODI index and JOA score in group B were significantly better than those in group A at 3 and 6 months after surgery(P < 0.05).The excellent and good rates of VAS score,ODI index and JOA score in group B were significantly higher than those in group A at 3 and 6 months after surgery(P < 0.05).Conclusions: The rhBMP-2 + allograft bone combination had good clinical effects and high fusion rate in XLIF and OLIF.
