Objective To analyze the etiology and location of benign airway stenosis. Methods A total of 237 patients in department of respiratory and critical care medicine from First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University during January 2013 from January 2018 were enrolled in this study. And then analyze the cause constituent ratio and the location of airway stenosis. Results Among the 237 cases of benign airway stenosis, the main three causes were tracheobronchial tuberculosis(166/70.04%),post-intubation trachel stenosis(20/8.44%),post tracheostomy tracheal stenosis(18/7.59%),the other causes were bronchial foreign bodies(3.80%),tracheobronchial granuloma(3.37%),benign tumors(3.37%),total laryngectomy(0.85%),bronchial anastomosis(0.85%),primary tracheobronchial amyloidosis(0.85%),tracheal chemical injury(0.85%).Benign airway stenosis is common in young people(54.85%).The first cause in women is due to tracheobronchial tuberculosis, and iatrogenicinjuries(including endotracheal intubation, tracheotomy and airway surgery)and tuberculosis are common in men. Most of the airway stenosis occurred in the central airway(219/92.40%).The left main stenosis was more common in the stenosis than in the right main bronchus. Conclusion The most common cause of benign airway stenosis in this group of patients was tracheobronchial tuberculosis, followed by post intubation and post tracheostomy tracheal stenosis. The central airway is the most prone to narrowing.
