| Objective:The clinical data of 141 RRMS and 63 NMOSD patients were retrospectively analyzed to explore whether the types and number of comorbidities were correlated with the age of onset, clinical course, recurrence rate and EDSS score.Materials and Methods:Clinical data of 141 RRMS and 63 NMOSD patients were collected and statistically analyzed, including gender, age of onset, course of disease,EDSS score, recurrence rate, and type and number of comorbidities.According to the number of comorbidities, the patients were divided into 4 groups, which were 0,1,2 and more than 3.The types and characteristics of comorbidities were summarized, and the correlation between each comorbidity group and clinical data were analyzed.Results:(1)About 72.3% RRMS patients had comorbidities, including 34 cases of 3 kinds of comorbidities,26 cases of 2 kinds of comorbidities,42 cases of 1 kind of comorbidity and 39 cases without comorbidity. There was asignificant difference in the age of onset between the group with more than3 types of comorbidities and the group with 0 or 1 type of comorbidity(P <0.001).There was no significant difference between different genders, and no significant difference between different groups in EDSS score and recurrence rate.(2)About 82.5% of the patients with NMOSD were combined with other comorbidities, and there were 20 cases of more than 3 kinds of comorbidities,12 cases of 2 kinds of comorbidities,1 kind of comorbidity were 20 cases, and 11 cases without comorbidity. In the group with more than 3 kinds of comorbidities and the group with 1 kind of comorbidity, only the age of onset had a difference, but not statistically significant(P=0.057).However,there was no significant difference with the onset to the diagnosis, the course of disease, and the recurrence rate. When the group with more than 3 kinds of comorbidities was compared to the other groups, the older age of onset, the shorter the interval between onset and diagnosis and the course of disease, but there was no statistically significant(P > 0.05).Conclusion:This study found that most RRMS and NMOSD patients had multiple physical and mental comorbidities. The older onset age they were, the more comorbidities they had,and the later had the shorter period from the first onset to the diagnosis and shorter disease course. Therefore,it is helpful to improve the understanding of comorbidities to avoid the delayof diagnosis due to the confusion of comorbidities with MS and NMOSD symptoms,so as to early diagnosis and treatment of MS and NMOSD and their comorbidities, improve the survival rate and quality of life of patients, and help to the clinical prognosis. |
