Objective To evaluate the short-term clinical outcomes and preliminary evaluation of oblique lateral interbody fusion for the treatment of degenerative lumbar diseases. Methods Clinic data of patients with degenerative lumbar diseases of The Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University from December 2017 to December 2018 who underwent OLIF were collected and retrospectively analyzed. The ventral height of intervertebral disc, dorsal height of intervertebral disc, anterior and posterior diameter of intervertebral foramen, the area and height of intervertebral foramen, lordosis angle of surgical segment and lumbar, the visual analogue scale(VAS),the Oswestry disability index(ODI)were recorded and compared. The postoperative complications were observed. Results After operation, the symptoms were significantly alleviated in all of the patients without serious complications. The VAS and ODI scores significantly decreased at 3 day postoperatively compared with that preoperatively(P <0.05).The ventral height of intervertebral disc, dorsal height of intervertebral disc, the area and height of intervertebral foramen, lordosis angle of surgical segment and lumbar were significantly improved at 3 day and 3 months postoperatively(P <0.05).Although there existed a mild loss at the 3 months postoperatively,no significant differences were found in the ventral height and dorsal height of intervertebral disc between the 3 day after operation and the 3 months postoperatively(P >0.05).Conclusion OLIF as a novel technique for spinal surgical management showed excellent short-term outcome for the treatment of degenerative lumbar diseases.Understanding and mastering surgical details can further improve imaging parameters and reduce complications...
