Based on a systematic review of relevant literature on professional identity and autonomous learning, this study investigates the situation of medical students ' professional identity and autonomous learning by means of questionnaire survey. The purpose of this study is to understand the current situation and characteristics of medical students ' professional identity and autonomous learning, and to further analyze the relationship between professional identity and autonomous learning. For the first time, the subjects of the study included five-year medical students majoring in every subdisciplines. The results showed that there was a moderate correlation between medical students' professional identity and autonomous learning. The three factors of professional identity, cognitive identity, behavioral identity and appropriateness identity, can explain 45% of the variance of autonomous learning motivation and learning strategy. This result provides scientific support for the construction of academic atmosphere and the improvement of medical students' professional identity and autonomous learning level. Thus,it provides useful help for strengthening the construction of medical students' style of study. This study adopts the " Questionnaire on professional identity of undergraduates" compiled by Qin Panbo and " Scale on autonomous learning of undergraduates" compiled by Zhu Zude.We conducted a survey of 759 students from the China Medical University, and the data obtained were statistically and analyzed by spss19.0,and main conclusions of the study are as follows:1.The overall level of medical students' professional identity is a little highe r than the average. The professional identity of the first and second grade student s is higher than that of the third grade students. The professional identity of stom atology students, forensic students, students of cli-nical medicine and anesthetic stud ents is higher than that of me-dical imaging students, preventive medical students a nd clinicalpharmacy students.2.The autonomous learning level of medical students is a little higher than the average.3.There are significant differences between different origins and majors in learning motivation and learning strategies. The professional identity of city students is higher than that of rural students.Students of stomatology, clinical medicine and anesthesiology are significantly superior to other majors in learning motivation and learning strategies.4.The four factors of professional identity, cognitive identity, emotional identity, behavioral identity and appropriateness identity, are positively correlated with learning motivation and learning strategies. The correlation coefficient with autonomous learning ranked as behavioral identity > appropriateness identity > cognitive identity > emotional identity.5.Students with high level of professional identity are significantly higher in learning motivation and learning strategies than in low-group groups.6.The three factors of professional identity, cognitive identity, behavioral identity and appropriateness recognition, effectively explain the variation of 45% of learning motivation and 45% of learning strategies.Behavioral identity accounts for the highest proportion of explanations.
