Objective: To investigate the distribution of some common diseases with diffusely elevated T2WI signal intensity in the liver MRI and related causes. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in 364 cases of liver MR images for the measurement and evaluation of distribution of T2WI signal intensity of the liver in healhy persons and in-patients,relative laboratory tests and clinical data were collected and analyzed. The patients were assigned into 8 groups(A1-A8)according to the clinical diagnosis of the patients discharged from the hospital: intrahepatic cholestasis group, extrahepatic cholestasis group, congestive liver disease group,drug-induced hepatitis group, acute pancreatitis group,hepatitis-related cirrhosis group, chronic hepatitis B group, and normal liver group.Pearson correlation coefficient and one-way analysis of variance(F-test)were used for the analyses of the values of T2WI signal intensity and some parameters of laboratory tests of the liver among different groups through the SPSS 19.0.Results: The T2 value of each disease group(A1-A7)was significantly higher than that of the normal group(A8),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The mean value of T2 signal intensity of each group was that 487.74±211.160 of intrahepatic cholestasis group,381.02±81.407 of extrahepatic cholestasis group,320.79±134.545 of hepatic congestion group, and 317.08±165.499 of drug-induced hepatitis group.299.57±134.594 of acute pancreatiti,265.78±73.253 of posthepatitic cirrhosis,236.48±132.144 of chronic hepatitis B,and 86.87±12.710 of normal liver, respectively.Among them, the intrahepatic cholestasis group was significantly different from the normal liver group. The Pearson correlation coefficient analysis showed that the total T2 value was positively correlated with aspartate aminotransferase, total bilirubin, and direct bilirubin, and the correlation coefficients were 0.206,0.315,and 0.361,respectively.In the A1-A8 groups, only the A2 group(chronic hepatitis B group)T2 value and total bilirubin(r = 0.538,P = 0.000),direct bilirubin(r = 0.565,P = 0.000)showed positive moderate correlation. Conclusion: T2WI signal intensity of the liver MR images diffusely markedly elevates in the patients with intrahepatic cholestasis and extrahepatic cholestasis;moderately in hepatic congestion,drug-induced hepatitis, and acute pancreatitis;andslightly in hepatitis-related cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis. The T2 value of the liver in each group had a certain correlation with direct bilirubin and other factors.
