Objective:5762 cases of outpatients with maxillofacial trauma were retrospectively analyzed,so as to understand the epidemiological characteristics of outpatients with maxillofacial trauma and provide reference for the prevention and treatment of maxillofacial trauma.Methods:A total of 5762 outpatients with maxillofacial trauma were selected from Shengjing Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University from January 1,2014 to December 31,2017.Their gender,age,cause of injury,location and time of injury were retrospectively analyzed.IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0 was used to establish the database.The classified variables were expressed by frequency.Chi-square test was carried out on the corresponding data between male and female groups.P<0.05 was the significant difference between the data.Results:Among outpatients with maxillofacial trauma,more males than females,the ratio of males to females was 1.7:1.The age,cause and location of injury were different between male and female(P<0.05).The peak age of onset was preschool children(3~6years old,28.5%),followed by infants(0~2 years old,20.5%)and adolescents(7~17years old,19.7%).Minor patients(0~17 years old)accounted for 68.7% of outpatients with maxillofacial trauma.Falling injury(72.9%)was the main cause of injury,followed by traffic accident injury(9.3%)and violent injury(7.5%).The third quarter(30.1%)and September(12.9%)was the peak of incidence of outpatients with maxillofacial trauma.The number of outpatients with maxillofacial trauma in February was the lowest(4.1%).Among soft tissue injuries,forehead(37.2%)was the most common site,followed by cheek(19.0%)and lip(18.7%).Conclusion:Males were more common in outpatients with maxillofacial trauma.There were significant differences in age,cause and location of injury between male and female.Preschool children(3~6 years old group)had the highest incidence in outpatients with maxillofacial trauma.Minors are more common in outpatients with maxillofacial trauma.Falling is the most common cause of injury.The third quarter and September was the peak of incidence of outpatients with maxillofacial trauma.The number of outpatientswith maxillofacial trauma in February was the lowest.Forehead is the most common injury site in outpatients with maxillofacial trauma.
