Objective: In this study, the morphology and bone density of bilateral condyles in patients with idiopathic condylar resorption and in healthy volunteers were measured quantitatively by CBCT,and the serum vitamin D levels were measured in all subjects. We could obtain the changes of condyle morphology and position in patients with idiopathic resorption of mandibular condyle and the special effect of condylar morphological changes on mandibular rotation. We also investigate the relationship between condylar bone mineral density(BMD)and bone metabolism biochemical index vitamin D.To provide reference for clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Methods: The CBCT data of 50 patients with idiopathic condylar resorption(experimental group)and 53 healthy volunteers with normal joints(control group)were read by Mimics software. The markers were located and the parameters were measured.Fasting venous blood was extracted from the experimental group to detect the vitamin D level of bone metabolism regulation index.SPSS 18.0 statistical software was used to measure the results of the Fisher exact probability method, paired t test, independent sample t test,chi-square test, and then test results were analyzed. Results: 1.There was no significant difference between the two sides of the control group and bilateral disease in both sides of the experimental group(P>0.05).2.There were significant differences in the anteroposterior diameter of condyle, the inner and outer diameter of condyle, height of condyle, length of posterior slope of condyle, angle of anterior oblique plane of condyle, anterior and posterior angle of condyle, internal and external angle of condyle, mandibular angle,Go-CP,Go-FH,Go-MSP,Joint nodule slope, superior space of joint, internal space of joint, anterior space of joint, posterior space of joint, condylar coronal plane-CP,condylar coronal plane-MSP in the experimental group with unilateral disease(P<0.05).3.The difference of vitamin D level between the experimental group and the control group was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions: 1.The condyle of patients with idiopathic condylar resorption showed three dimensional morphological and position changes:the decrease of condylar height was the main change of morphology; The position of condyle shifted upward on the coronal plane, rotated clockwise on the sagittal direction, and forward and inward on the axial plane,respectively.2.The bone mineral density under cartilage of patients with idiopathic condylar resorption were reconstructed asymmetrically.3.Deficiency of vitamin D is common in patients with idiopathic condylar resorption, which suggest that there is a close relationship between idiopathic condylar absorption and vitamin D.The correlation still needs to be confirmed by large and precise experimental studies.
