BackgroundChronic obstructive pulmonary disease?COPD?is a disease characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and restricted airflow.Studies have found that lung aging can be accelerated due to factors such as endogenous and exogenous oxidative stress[1].Human growth differentiation factor 11?GDF11?is a member of the transforming growth factor beta superfamily. It has functions of improving cognition and resisting skeletal muscle aging, and is known as an anti-aging and repair vitality factor[2].In lung tissue,GDF11 is mainly present in airway epithelial cells and mesothelial cells in the inner wall of airways. The production of GDF11 in lung fibroblasts and airway epithelial cells of COPD patients is reduced compared with healthy people, and in COPD patients GDF11 levels in serum are significantly reduced compared to healthy people[3].However,it is unclear whether the decrease in serum GDF11level has affected clinical data such as lung function, quality of life, and activity endurance in patients with COPD.This experiment mainly studies the serum GDF11 level in patients with COPD and its pulmonary function and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease assessment scale.?COPD assessment test?CAT??,Breathlessness measurement using the modified British Medical Reseach Council?mMRC?,The 6-minutes walking test distance?6MWD?,To evaluate the expression level and clinical significance of GDF11 in COPD patients.PurposeTo investigate the correlation between serum growth differentiation factor 11?GDF11?and lung function, active endurance, and quality of life in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and to analyze the effect of GDF11 on pulmonary function, active endurance, and quality of life in patients with COPD.MethodParticipants were selected from May 2018 to July 2019 in 60 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who were admitted to the Department of Respiratory Medicine,Xinxiang Medical College First Affiliated Hospital after 4 weeks of acute exacerbation.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay?ELISA?was used to detect the level of serum GDF11 in subjects, and spirometry was used to detect the forced vital capacity?FVC?and forced expiratory volume in one second.,FEV1),forced expiratory volume in one/forced vital capacity?FEV1/FVC?,forced expiratory volume in one second as a percentage of the predicted value?one second forced expiratory volume as a percentage of the expected value,FEV1%pred?,using6MWT,CAT score and mMRC scale to evaluate the activity endurance and quality of life of COPD patients; In order to further analyze the differences in serum GDF11 levels of COPD patients with different lung function severity, the included patients were classified as mild and moderate into 30 cases in group A according to the severity of airflow-restricted lung function?ie,group A patients FEV1%pred?50%?,classify severe and extremely severe into 30 cases in group B?ie,FEV1%pred<50%in group B patients?,compare the difference of serum GDF11levels between the two groups of patients;all data are statistically analyzed using SPSS25.0analysis.Result1.Spearman correlation analysis showed that serum GDF11 in 60 patients was positively correlated with airflow limitation severity index FEV1%pred?P<0.01?,and the correlation coefficient was 0.556;it was positively correlated with other lung function indexes FVC,FEV1,FEV1/FVC?P<0.01?,the correlation coefficients were 0.454,0.543,0.493;the serum GDF11levels of 60 patients were positively correlated with the activity endurance index 6MWD?P<0.01?,and the correlation coefficient was 0.589,which was negatively correlated with the quality of life index CAT score?P<0.01?,the correlation coefficient is-0.491,which is negatively correlated with the quality of life index mMRC scale?P<0.01?,the correlation coefficient is-0.499.2.Comparison of serum GDF11 levels in COPD patients with different severity of lung function Serum GDF11 levels in group A were significantly higher than those in group B?P<0.01?.ConclusionSerum GDF11 levels in patients with stable COPD were significantly correlated with lung function parameters,6MWD,CAT score, and mMRC scale. The lower the level of serum GDF11,the worse the lung function of the patient, the worse the activity endurance and quality of life;Serum GDF11 level is involved in the severity of pulmonary function, quality of life and prognosis of patients with COPD.
