Objective: The concentrations of B cell activating factor(BAFF)and interleukin-17(IL-17)in the serum of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)were measured,and the relationship between them and insulin resistance(IR)and carotid intima media thickness(CIMT)was explored.Methods: Ninety-eight patients with T2 DM received and treated to the Endocrinology Department of our hospital from October 2018 to June 2019 were elected as the study case group,that is,the type 2 diabetes group(T2DM group).In the same period of time,96 healthy persons matched with T2 DM group in age and gender were selected from the physical examination center of our hospital as the control group(NC group).To compare the serum levels of BAFF and IL-17 between T2 DM group and NC group,to explore the relationship between BAFF and IL-17,and the interrelation between BAFF and IL-17 and clinical study indexes.According to different BAFF concentrations,T2 DM group was divided into three subgroups,which were 1 group,2 groups and 3 groups respectively.To compare the general clinical indexes and IL-17 concentration differences between subgroups 1,2 and 3,to explore the relationship between BAFF and IL-17,IR.The T2 DM group was separated into the other three subgroups on the basis of different CIMT,which were A group,B groups and C groups respectively.To compare the level differences of serum BAFF,IL-17 between subgroups A,B and C,to explore the relationship between them and CIMT in patients with type 2 diabetes.Results(1)The chroma of BAFF and IL-17 in T2 DM group were higher than those in NC group(P < 0.05)(2)There was a positive correlation between serum BAFF and HOMA-IR,IL-17,HbAlc,BMI,course of disease,TG,TC in T2 DM group.(r = 0.606,0.431,0.439,0.531,0.291,0.325,0.432,P < 0.05).(3)There was a negative correlation between serum BAFF and Matsuda ISI,FCP in T2 DM group(r =-0.536,-0.408,P < 0.05).(4)Serum IL-17 was positively correlated with HOMA-IR,HbAlc,BMI and LDL-C in T2 DM group(r =0.515,0.467,0.431,0.270,P < 0.05).(5)In T2 DM group,IL-17 was negatively correlated with Matsuda ISI(r =-0.419,P < 0.05)(6)HbA1c had linear regression relationship with BAFF and IL-17.The higher expression level of BAFF and IL-17,the higher HbA1 c.(7)With the increase of BAFF serum expression level,HOMA-IR,BMI and HbA1 c also increased in 1,2 and 3 subgroups(P < 0.05),while Matsuda ISI decreased with the increase of BAFF serum concentration(P < 0.05).(8)With the increase of CIMT thickness,the serum BAFF concentration increased(P < 0.05);the expression level of IL-17 in serum also increased with the increase of CIMT(P < 0.05).Conclusions(1)BAFF is closely related to insulin resistance;(2)BAFF and IL-17 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of type 2diabetes;(3)BAFF and IL-17 may cause CIMT thickening in patients with type 2diabetes.
