| Objectives With the decrease in birth rate and mortality rate,at the end of 2019,China’s elderly population over 60 years old has reached 254 million,accounting for18.1% of the total population.China is about to enter an aging society.Elderly people will have different degrees of cognitive aging,resulting in memory loss,inattention,emotional instability and other problems,which cause trouble in daily life.How to slow down the cognitive aging of the elderly and let the elderly have a healthy and happy old age has become an urgent matter to be solved.According to the theory of working memory decline,working memory decline is one of the causes of cognitive aging.In recent years,mobile phones have entered people’s lives,and mobile games have become a favorite entertainment activity for many people.So,how does video games affect working memory? Can video games improve working memory and slow the cognitive aging of the elderly.This study investigates the current state of cognitive abilities of the elderly and explores the effects of video games on the working memory of the elderly.Methods In the first study,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 175 elderly people in a senior college in Tangshan City to investigate the cognitive status of the elderly.The cluster sampling method was used to select experimental subjects from the surveyed elderly,and the subjects were divided into an intervention group and a control group.The intervention group received 7 weeks of video game training,while the control group did nothing.Study 2 measured the effect of video game intervention on the visual spatial memory of the elderly through the graphical n-back experimental paradigm.Study 3 uses oddball dual-task paradigm and digital conversion paradigm to explore the impact of video games on the cognitive control of the elderly.Results The results of the investigation in Study 1 indicate that the factors that affect the status quo of the elderly’s cognitive abilities mainly include the age of the elderly(P<0.05),education level(P<0.05),and whether they play games daily(P<0.05).There is no significant relationship between gender(P>0.05);the results of Experiment 1 show that the effect of video game intervention on visual spatial memory of the elderly is significant [F(1,28)=3.199,P=0.000,ηp2=0.116],and the intervention group(836.04±130.24)Compared with the control group,the response time(1162.03 ± 235.47)waslonger.The correct rate of video games on the visual spatial memory of the elderly[F(1,28)=10.284,P=0.000,ηp2=0.279] The intervention effect was significant,compared with the correct rate of visual spatial memory of the intervention group(0.916±0.06),the control group The correct rate of visual spatial memory(0.893 ±0.05)was lower;there was a significant difference in the response of visual spatial memory at different load levels in the intervention group [F(1,28)=6.029,P<0.05].Visual spatial memory at low load level The average response time(773.00±140.01)was significantly lower than the high-load level(1225.31±254.32);the results of Experiment 2 showed that the effect of video games on the inhibitory ability of the elderly was not significant [F(1,28)=9.10,P>0.05];The results of Experiment 3 show that the main effect of video games on the accuracy rate of the conversion ability of the elderly is significant,[F(1,28)=16.434,P=0.001,ηp2=0.335],the repetition condition accuracy rate(0.93±0.03)Is higher than the conversion condition(0.89 ± 0.06);the main effect of game intervention on the correct rate of inhibitory function response is significant,[F(1,28)=4.403,P=0.036,ηp2=0.335],the correct rate of the intervention group(0.94 ±0.05)higher than the control group(0.89±0.06).The conversion cost of the elderly’s conversion ability was significant(t=2.261,P=0.018),and the conversion cost of the intervention group(293.59 ± 863.81)was significantly lower than that of the control group(318.19 ±1421.60).Conclusions Video games have significant intervention effect on the visual spatial memory and cognitive conversion function of the elderly,but have no significant effect on the cognitive inhibition function of the elderly.Video game intervention has a more significant effect on tasks with the same level of cognitive resource consumption as the elderly.Figure3;Table19;Reference 83... |
