Part ? Research progress on posterior occlusal veneerOcclusal veneer is a resin-bonded restoration with entire coverage of all cusps.Occlusal veneer made of glass-matrix ceramics or resin-matrix ceramics, which is bonded with dental adhesives and resin cements, can achieve a favorable clinical result. With the development of materials and techniques,ultra-thin occlusal veneer with a thickness of 0.3-0.6 mm exhibits good fracture resistance. The enamel margin of occlusal veneer can be designed as butt joint, hollow chamfer and bevel.Chipping and fracture, dentin hypersensitivity and pulpitis are common complications of occlusal veneer restorations.Part ? Microstructure observation and finite element analysis of occlusal veneer restorations with two different marginal designs. Objective To make an analysis on enamel microstructure and stress distribution of occlusal veneer restorations under two different marginal designs. Methods Maxillary second premolars were sectioned longitudinally to observe the prism orientations under polarized light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.Enamel microstructures of premolars prepared with butt joint or hollow chamfer margins were observed under scanning electron microscopy in eight directions.Premolar scanned by micro-CT was reconstructed into 3-dimentional files, designed by CAD software and analyzed in finite element analysis. Results Hollow chamfer margin showed more transversely sectioned prisms under scanning electron microscopy and reduced stress concentration in finite element analysis compared with butt joint margin.Part ? Clinical application of posterior occlusal veneer and overlay veneerObjective To make a initial research on the clinical performance of posterior occlusal veneers and overlay veneers made of lithium disilicate glass ceramics. Methods Twenty-two teeth restored with occlusal veneers and overlay veneers between April 2016 to January 2020 at the Stomatology Hospital affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine were assessed using modified United States Public Health Service evaluation criteria. Results After up to 36 months clinical observation, the survival rate was 100%.The restorations included could achieve good clinical performance in short-time observation. The short-time defect of occlusal veneer was color match.
