| Objective:In this study, the relationship between the tongue and the width of dental arch, alveolar bone and basal bone was studied,so as to provide a reference for the etiology, diagnosis and treatment design of the abnormal width of malocclusion. Methods:We enrolled 430 patients who were scheduled to undergo CBCT.The tongue of each patient’s was coated with a contrast agent.According to the inclusion criteria,54 patients were selected(age: 22.19±3.37 years). The width of dental arch, alveolar bone and basal bone and tongue were evaluated with Invivo 5 and Mimics16.0.The statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 21.0.Results:1 Relationship between tongue volume and dental arch and jaw widthThe tongue volume showed a positive correlation with UPA(r=+0.306,p<0.05).And there was a statistically significant correlation between UMA and tongue volume(r=+0.429,p<0.01)。 And there was a statistically significant correlation between LCA,LMA,LCAB,LPAB,LMAB,LCBB,LMBB and tongue volume(r=+0.360,p<0.01;r=+0.456,p<0.01;r=+0.420,p<0.01;r=+0.552,p<0.01;r=+0.510,p<0.01;r=+0.510,p<0.01;r=+0.659,p<0.01;r=+0.348,p<0.01)。2 Relationship between tongue position(TTx,TTy,TTz)and dental arch and jaw widthTTy showed a negative correlation with LCA,LPA,LPAB(r=-0.378,p<0.01;r=-0.359,p<0.01;r=-0.334,p<0.05).TTz showed a positive correlation with UMA,LCAB,UPBB,UMBB,LCBB(r=+0.294,p<0.05;r=+0.280,p<0.05;r=+0.279,p<0.05;r=+0.288,p<0.05;r=+0.312,p<0.05;).Conclusion:The width of middle and posterior segment of maxillary arch, mandibular bone, alveolar bone and arch increased with the increase of tongue volume. The anterior and posterior position of the tip of the tongue has a great influence on the basal bone, alveolar arch and arch width in the anterior and central part of the mandible, and increases with the forward position of the tip of the tongue. The vertical position of the tip of the tongue has a great influence on the arch, alveolar arch and basal bone of the middle and posterior maxillary and anterior mandibular segments, and increases with the upward movement of the tip of the tongue. |
