Objective:To observe the effects of taohong siwu decoction combined with conventional treatment on relieving preoperative swelling of supination-external rotation ankle fractures.Methods:80 cases of eligible patients with supination-external rotation ankle fractures treated in our hospital from February 2019 to January 2020 were randomly divided into the control group and the experimental group. Both groups were given the conventional treatment, including manual reduction, plaster fixation, ice compress, elevation of the affected limb, drug detumescence, pain management and gastrointestinal protection, etc al.The experimental group was given the taohong siwu decoction orally on the basis of conventional treatment.Treatment began on the first day of admission and were stopped until the day when the swelling grade became 1.The patients’ swelling value before treatment,on the third day of treatment,on and the day when the swelling grade became 1 were all observed and recorded,as well as the swelling grade before treatment,on the third day of treatment,on the fifth day of treatment,on the seventh day of treatment, detumescence speed, detumescence time, rate of blisters and serious adverse safety events. All data were analyzed with statistical software SPSS20.0.Results:76 patients were enrolled in this study. There were 38 cases in the control group, which contained 22 male and 16 female, with an average age of(51.50±11.69)years old,supination-external rotation type Ⅱ,supination-external rotation type Ⅲ,supination-external rotation type Ⅳ ankle fractures had 9cases,20 cases,9cases respectively in the control group. There were 38 cases in the experimental group, which contained 18 male and 20 female, with an average age of(52.05 ± 9.78)years old,supination-external rotation type Ⅱ,supination-external rotation typee Ⅲ,supination-external rotation type Ⅳ ankle fractures had7 cases,19cases,12 cases respectively in the experimental group.Baseline data such as gender,age,Lauge-Hansen classification of ankle fractures of two groups were compared, there were no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).There were no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the swelling value before treatment,on the third day of treatment,on and the day when the swelling grade became 1(P> 0.05).There were no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the swelling grade before treatment,on the third day of treatment,on the seventh day of treatment(P> 0.05).There was statistically significant difference between the two groups in the swelling grade on the fifth day of treatment(P< 0.05).There were statistically significant difference between the two groups in the swelling value before treatment and on the day when the swelling grade became1(P< 0.05).There were statistically significant difference between the two groups in the detumescence speed and detumescence time(P < 0.05).There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the rate of blisters(P > 0.05).Neither control group nor experimental group happened serious adverse safety events. Conclusion:The combination of taohong siwu decoction and conventional treatment to treat the preoperative swelling of supination-external rotation ankle fractures can accelerate the speed of detumescence and shorten the detumescence time by activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis.
