Background and objective Objective: To determine the influence of aty pical antipsychotics treatment on erectile function in remitted male schizophrenia and to assess the possible role of plasma prolactin con centrations.Method: The male schizophrenic patients, who were meeti ng criteria for remission, living with a stable sexual partner and re ceiving atypical antipsychotic drug monotherapy(clozapine, quetiapin e,olanzapine, risperidone, aripiprazole, amisulpride, paliperidone an d ziprasidone n=30 respectively)for at least six months were recruit ed.Erectile function was assessed using the International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF).Blood samples were taken for plasma prolact in determination by double antibody radioimmunoassay(RIA).Results: The frequency of erectile dysfunction was greater in risperidone grou p than aripiprazole groups(P=0.0097).Prolactin was significantly h igher in subjects receiving amisulpride, ziprasidone and risperidone compared with those receiving clozapine, quetiapine, olanzapine and aripiprazole(all P<0.001).Subjects receiving paliperidone are high er than those receiving aripiprazole(both P<0.001).Prolactin was s ignificantly correlated with IIEF-5 score within the whole patients(P<0.0001),the group of amisulpride(P=0.0002)and the group of z iprasidone(P<0.0001).Conclusion: Among AAP,amisulpride are more likely to be associated with erectile dysfunction in men than other d rugs.Risperidone takes the second place.Amisulpride, ziprasidone an d risperidone might increase blood prolactin.
