| Perception is a series of processes that can organize and analyze external objects and events.Contour integration and orientation recognition are two of the basic perceptual capabilities of human beings.Over the years, many scientists had conducted in-depth research in this area, but there were still some unsolved problems.Previous studies pointed out that patients with amblyopia had weaker contour integration ability than normal people, but this conclusion was obtained when a fixed stimulus duration was given. When the stimulus duration is different,it may involve the influence of different regulatory mechanisms,so it is necessary to study the effect of stimulus duration on the contour integration ability of amblyopia. In the first study, healthy eyes of normal subjects, amblyopic eyes of amblyopic patients, and contralateral eyes of amblyopic patients were regarded as research objects. We focused on the effects of duration on the contour integration ability of amblyopic patients. The experimental results showed that:(1)when the local feature information was sufficient, the extension of duration could significantly improve the contour recognition ability of the amblyopic eye.(2)With the extension of duration,to all of the healthy eyes, contralateral eyes and amblyopic eyes, the abilities to identify various contour curvatures were increasing.(3)Participants’ recognition of semicircles, which relies on visual experience, was generally weaker than that to line, which has the richest visual experience. Moreover, the other contours which did not depend on visual experience, required longer duration to be identified.Perceptual learning can enhance subjects’ attention, memory and visual experience. Then the role of stimulation duration in the process of myopic perceptual learning were further studied. The experimental results showed that:(1)the training group with short duration was more specific to the training orientation, and the difference of EEG were mainly concentrated in occipital, temporal and middle-level visual cortex.(2)the training group with long duration showed more non-training-oriented migration, and the EEG presented more excitatory activities in frontal cortex.Accordingly,we believed that the subjects got more of the basic attributes of stimulation and mainly handled bottom-up mechanism at primary and middle-level visual cortex when the short duration was given.Correspondingly, the extension of the stimulus duration allowed subjects to obtain more top-down information, such as memory, attention, visual experience and other information, from frontal cortex and other high-level visual cortex. The top-down modulation regulated the execution of tasks and could also be transferred to non-training attribute recognition tasks. In summary,by means of contour integration and perceptual learning, this study focused on the effect of different stimulus duration on myopic and amblyopic perception. The results showed that prolonging the stimulus duration could improve the ability to integrate contours to amblyopia, and could make better perceptual learning performance even in transfer task to myopia. This result provides a new idea for formulating a more efficient treatment plan for myopia and amblyopia, and makes the stimulus duration an important consideration in the scientific research of myopic and amblyopic treatment. |
