Objective:This study combined with foreign Benson’s relaxation technology research experiences, aimed at Chinese maintenance hemodialysis patients ’sleep quality, anxiety, and depression,to explore the effects of Benson’s relaxation technology on maintenance hemodialysis patients’ sleep quality, anxiety, and depression, and improve sleep quality, anxiety and depression in hemodialysis patients. Methods:In this study, convenient sampling was adopted.According to the inclusion, exclusion, and rejection criteria,69 patients with maintenance hemodialysis were finally included, including 32 in the intervention group and 37 in the control group.the intervention group implemented Benson’s relaxation technique on the basis of routine care;the control group received routine care. The study site was at the Hemodialysis Center of the First Hospital of Jilin University. Before the intervention, the general data questionnaire,Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Scale,Self-Anxiety Rating Scale,SelfDepression Rating Scale and Sleep-Monitoring Bracelet were used to collect baseline data. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Scale,Self-Anxiety Rating Scale,SelfDepression Rating Scale, and Sleep-Monitoring Bracelet were used to evaluate the effects of Benson’s relaxation technique on sleep quality and anxiety and depression in patients with maintenance hemodialysis after the intervention. Results: 1.General informationAge,gender, education level, spouse, work, cost of payment, duration of dialysis, kidney surgery, combined disease and experience related to relaxation therapy were compared between the intervention group and the control group, the results showed that the general data of the two groups of patients were not statistically different(P>0.05),and were comparable.2.Status analysisThe total night sleep time of maintenance hemodialysis patients with sleep disorder was about 352 minutes, deep sleep time was about 75 minutes, light sleep time was about 174 minutes, rapid eye movement sleep time was about 103 minutes, and number of awakenings was about 4 times. The total scores of the PSQI scale was about 13 points, the time to sleep was 3 points, the subjective sleep quality, sleep duration, sleep efficiency, and daytime dysfunction were 2 points, the sleep disorder was 1 point, and the sleep medication was 0 points.3.Intervention effect(1)Comparison between groupsAfter the intervention, the sleep latency, sleep efficiency, daytime dysfunction and number of awakenings of the intervention group were statistically different from the control group(P<0.05).The sleep latency was reduced, the sleep efficiency and daytime dysfunction were improved, and the number of awakenings was reduced. There were no statistically significant differences in other sleep quality related parameters and the scores of SAS scale and SDS scale(P>0.05).(2)Comparison in the groupThere were statistically significant differences in the sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep efficiency, daytime dysfunction, scores of PSQI and total sleep time, rapid eye movement sleep time, number of awakenings, scores of SAS in the intervention group(P<0.05),The sleep quality was improved, the time to fall asleep was reduced, the sleep efficiency and daytime dysfunction were improved, the total sleep time and rapid eye movement sleep time were increased, the number of awakenings was reduced, the anxiety was relieved to a certain extent, and the other sleep quality related parameters were not statistically different(P > 0.05);There were no statistically significant differences in sleep quality related parameters, and the scores of SAS and SDS in the control group(P>0.05).Conclusions:1.The incidence of sleep disorder was higher in maintenance hemodialysis patients, which were mainly reflected in the prolonged sleep latency, frequent awakening times, and daytime fatigue, etc.,which seriously affected the disease prognosis and quality of life of maintenance hemodialysis patients.2.Benson’s relaxation technique improved the sleep quality of patients with maintenance hemodialysis, which was mainly reflected in sleep latency, sleep efficiency, daytime dysfunction, number of awakenings, subjective sleep quality, etc.Benson’s relaxation technique also had a positive effect on relieving anxiety, which was an effective way to improve the prognosis and quality of life of maintenance hemodialysis patients.3.Benson’s relaxation technique was safe and effective, easy to operate, and had certain requirements for compliance,In the future, the research scope and applicable population could be expanded to improve the effectiveness and applicability of Benson’s relaxation technique.
