| Objective1.To translate and revise the Father Support Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form(FBSES-SF)developed by Dennis et al.,and modify it as a Chinese version of the scale suitable for Chinese culture.2.To compute the reliability and validity of the Translated Chinese version of the Father Support Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form3.To investigate the predictive ability of the FBSES-SF scale and the IIFAS scale on maternal breastfeeding and determine the best cut-off point for the scale.Methods1.By using the Brislin translation model to interpret the scale into Chinese, the experts modified it based on Chinese culture.Clinically,210 maternity and their husbands were selected to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Then all data were input into SPSS23.0 software for statistical analysis.2.A total of 187 maternal spouses were evaluated using the FBSES-SF scale and IIFAS scale.Forty-two days of maternal postpartum feeding patterns was selected as the diagnostic criteria. The ROC curve was used to compare the prediction effects of the two scales.Results1.There were 14 entries in the Chinese FBSES-SF scale. One factor was extracted after the exploratory factor analysis,The factor cumulative variance contribution rate was 55.038%.The result of confirmatory factor analysis has showed that the total scale and subscales fitted well with the structure model. The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the total scale was 0.935,the half-fold reliability of the total scale was 0.930.the test-retest was 0.811.The Scale-Content Validity Index(S-CVI)was 0.976,and the Item-Content Validity Index(I-CVI)ranged from 0.83 to 1.00,the correlation coefficient between each factor ranged from 0.389 to 0.643,and the correlation coefficient between each factor and the total score of the scale ranged from 0.633 to 0.798.All of the analysis above showed statistically significance(P<0.01).2.The multiple linear regression analysis of the FBSES-SF scale show that the assess of the father support breastfeeding self-efficacy scores were corelated with the father ’s recognition of the importance of breastfeeding, milk secretion, feeding pattern, and breastfeeding education. It can explain 54.2% of the amount of variation.3.The best cut-off point of the FBSES-SF and IIFAS was 58 and 59 and the sensitivity was 86.57% and 67.16%,respectively.The specificity was 89.47% and 78.95%,respectively.The area under ROC curve was 0.921 [95% CI(0.851,0.964)],0.807 [95% CI(0.718,0.877)],and the difference between the two scales was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion1.The Chinese version of FBSES-SF scale is an effective tool for assessing father’s selfconfidence in maternal breastfeeding. The scale score can predict the maternal feeding pattern. The low score exhibits a dangerous signal to stop breastfeeding earlier in the postpartum period. It helps clinical experts to increase maternal feeding confidence by intervening in spouse attitudes.2.Though Both the FBSES-SF scale and the IIFAS scale have a good predictive ability, the FBSES-SF scale showed better targeting for the choice of maternal feeding methods, helping medical staff to make decision earlier to give breastfeeding support for the low-point populations. |
