| Objective: Cervical spondylosis is based on the degeneration or protrusion of cervical intervertebral disc, and shows the secondary pathological changes of its surrounding tissue structure(nerve root, vertebral artery, sympathetic nerve, spinal cord, etc.)as its clinical manifestation. It is a common and frequently-occurring syndrome which has become one of the main diseases threatening human health, and the incidence is getting younger. Therefore,it is imperative to diagnose and treat cervical spondylosis early and timely. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the difference of clinical efficacy between electro-acupuncture at Jiaji(EX-B2)acupoint and fine-tuning manipulation of cervical spine in the treatment of cervical spondylosis by comparing the effect of electro-acupuncture or massage. Methods: A total of 80 cases were included in this study.According to the principle of randomized control, they were divided into two groups: electro-acupuncture treatment group and massage control group,40 cases in each one.The electro-acupuncture treatment group was treated with electro-acupuncture at Jiaji(EX-B2)acupoint and behavioral intervention, while the massage control group was treated with fine-tuning manipulation of cervical spine and behavioral intervention. The two groups were treated once every other day, three times a week, for one month. The score of clinical symptoms and signs of cervical spondylosis in the two groups were recorded and compared before treatment,1 month after treatment,2 months and 4 months after follow-up.The score of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)were also recorded and analyzed by SPSS 21.0 statistical software. Results: Compared before and after treatment, the symptom score and VAS score of the two groups in 1 month of treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment, and the follow-up in 2 months was significantly lower than that in 1 month of treatment as well(P<0.01);the follow-up in 4 months was slightly higher than that in 2months(P>0.05).After treatment, there was no significant difference in symptom scorebetween the two groups in 1 month of treatment,2 months and 4 months of follow-up(P>0.05),while the VAS score of the massage control group decreased more significantly than that of the electro-acupuncture treatment group(P<0.05).But there was no significant difference between the two groups in 2 months and 4 months of follow-up(P>0.05).The total effective rate of the two groups was both 97.37%.After 1month of treatment, the recovery rate of electro-acupuncture group was 44.74%,and the recovery rate of massage control group was 50.00%,slightly higher than that of electro-acupuncture group, but there was no significant difference(P>0.05);the recovery rate of both groups was 57.89% in 2 months of follow-up;the recovery rate of electro-acupuncture treatment group was maintained in 4 months of follow-up,and that of massage control group decreased slightly to 55.26%(P>0.05).Comparing the patients’ evaluation, there were 0 cases of disappearance,12 cases of obvious improvement,23 cases of slight improvement and 3 cases of no change in the last follow-up electro-acupuncture treatment group, while 1 case of disappearance,11 cases of obvious improvement,24 cases of slight improvement and 2 cases of no change in the massage control group with no significant difference(P>0.05).Conclusion: Electro-acupuncture or massage in the treatment of cervical spondylosis have significant effect. The total effective rate, recovery rate and patient’s evaluation are about equal. It has the same effect in improving clinical symptoms and signs. However,in alleviating cervical pain, the immediate effect of massage control group is better than that of electro-acupuncture treatment group, which fully demonstrates the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture and massage in the treatment of cervical spondylosis. |
