Some linguists are devoted to a variety of styles of language analysis from not only pragmatic view but cognitive view.As the core of the traditional pragmatics and the product of contemporary cognitive science development, cooperation and egocentrism belongs to different subjects, while few researchers combine the two views to analyze cooperation and egocentrism in the language.Integrating the two schools,Istvan Kecskes puts forward the socio-cognitive approach to pragmatics. In this paper, qualitative, interpretive and descriptive analysis is adopted as research method. This paper, from SCA,tries to explore and analyze the data collected from The Ellen Show and aims to find that cooperation and egocentrism are dyads in the communication. In order to specifically analyze the data, this paper chooses an American hot talk show The Ellen Show. All the examples cited in the paper are extracted from the script of The Ellen Show.By exploring the dialogue between the host and the guests(or the audience),the paper grows an attempt to answer the following questions: 1.What's the relationship between cooperation and egocentrism from the perspective of SCA? 2.How do the hostess and the guest reflect cooperation and egocentrism in TV talk show? This paper is aimed at revealing a new idea of utterance analysis from SCA,which consists of five chapters.Chapter One makes a general introduction;Chapter Two reviews and concludes research achievements on cooperation and egocentrism from pragmatic view and cognitive view;Chapter Three discusses the framework of SCA,including context, intention and attention, relevance and salience in SCA;Chapter Four is the main part of this paper: through qualitative, interpretive and descriptive analysis, the author studies the samples from SCA in multiple levels with specific examples.Chapter Five summarizes the paper: to state the significance of data analysis from SCA and to present the deficiencies as well as the suggestions to further researches. The research of this paper has some significance both in theory and in practice.Theoretically, this paper dissects cooperation and egocentrism through data from SCA,which integrates pragmatics and cognition to a large degree.SCA represents new research ideas and trends with great enlightenment and value.Practically, this paper provides the speaker and the hearer with valuable reference: to understand and cope with the utterance of the other side or to communicate more efficiently and figure out the meaning of others in daily life.
