Chinese character "?"(bei)was elected to be the word that could best describe China in the activity "Inventory of Chinese in 2009----Representing China and the World with One Word" on February 6,2010(Hou Min&Zhou Jian,2010).“?”(bei)in Chinese,a passive voice marker indicating passiveness, was considered to be the word that could best describe China."?",(bei)here is beyond traditional Chinese usage,it is a new word derived from the Internet. Its grammatical collocation is beyond regular grammar rules:it could be followed by transitive verbs,as well as intransitive verbs, nouns, adjectives, etc.,noted as "bei+XX" in this thesis."Bei+XX" has been popular in the Internet and newspapers since 2009.It was considered to be a brand new language phenomenon which was different from traditional Chinese bei-passives(Wang Yin,2011;Xiong Xueliang&He Ling,2012).To testify this view, the thesis adopts qualitative research method and quantitative research method to study the relationship between "bei+XX" and Chinese bei-passives from the perspective of syllable, structure and meaning, and finds that:firstly, from the perspective of syllable,"bei+XX" overlaps with Chinese bei-passives in its prototypical member "bei+disyllable".Based on Prototype Theory,"bei+XX" is a member of Chinese bei-passive syllable category.Secondly, from the perspective of structure,"bei+XX" is a member of Chinese bei-passive structure category for its overlapping with the prototypical member of Chinese bei-passive structure category "bei+transitive verb".Thirdly, from the perspective of meaning,"bei+XX" overlaps with Chinese bei-passives in its prototypical member "negative meaning".As a result,"bei+XX" is a member of Chinese bei-passive meaning category according to Prototype Theory. In a word, based on Prototype Theory, the conclusion that "bei+XX" is a member of Chinese bei-passive category could be reached. The thesis is hoped to enrich the study of bei+XX and other network languages or offer a new angle for this type of researches.
