Capping ceremony is known as ‘the beginning of ceremony',which is regarded as praiseworthy courtesy of the five cardinal relationships,and it is the the symbolic ceremony of ancient male adult.Capping ceremony is a kind of cultural phenomenon and is also an ancient educational way for youth,which plays very important role in the etiquette of ancient Chinese nation.The thesis explained the ethical implication and realistic meaning of ancient capping ceremony from four aspects.The first part reviewed the origin and evolution of capping ceremony.The capping ceremony originated from the coming-of-age ceremony in the primitive society.The capping focuses on source period in Primitive tribes,the purpose is to carry on the tracing and excavate the significance and value of capping ceremony in early stages.Sorting out the changes of capping ceremony functions as history as a mirror—avoid going astray by reviewing the past,and makes us be sure the changes of capping ceremony.It can provide the theoretical basis to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of capping ceremony from ideological history and cultural history.The second part analyzed the specific procedure of ancient capping ceremony.In the ancient times,the capping ceremony had strict procedure.According to Rites,the specific procedure and the main content include three aspects.The first one is the preparation before the ceremony,Main ceremony and rites after ceremony.The second aspect is naming,the third aspect is three capping.The third part discussed the cultural connotation of capping ceremony.Capping ceremony permeate the ethical spirit and moral appeal about be responsible for themselves and others,learn to respect themselves and others,and educated people through concrete and vivid ritual activities.To identify and practice the ethical spirit has its specific and indispensable significance and functions for improving personal moral cultivation and promoting social moral education.The fourth part explained the relationship between the coming-of-age ceremony and the capping ceremony.This part described the implementation statues of coming-of-age ceremony and summarized some problems existing in the procedure of coming-of-age ceremony.It also described the advantages of coming-of-age ceremony at abroad to highlight the realistic meaning which means the coming-of-age ceremony returns to the spiritual connotation of capping ceremony.
