The problem of meaning of language is the key problem to the philosophy of language, and the semantics searches the meaning of expressions by talking about the referential relationship of language and the world and the intentionality of speakers.Two-dimensional semantics(2-D semantics)is a great progress in current philosophical semantics, and for one thing,it inherits many heritages in the traditional philosophy of languge, for another,it learns many lessons from current achievements and makes its own acclaims.2-D semantics has played a important role in the field of philosophy of language.David.Chalmers is a representative of 2-D semantics, and his theory is both unique and representative for his combination of a variety of different kinds of 2-D semantics theses.Through the debates between him and his critics, the 2-D semantics'influence has been extended. In this essay,I am going to focus on Chalmers'epistemic 2-D semantics, and his theses will be analysed.By doing that,it will be shown that though epistemic 2-D semantics has some advantages in solving some problems and difficulties in the philosophy of language,it will meet some problems when dealing with the relationship between the epistemology and metaphysics and the epistemic possibility. In order to solve those problems, some further work is still required.
