A Project Report On Translation Of Short Story Karain:A Memory

This thesis is a project report about the English-Chinese translation of Karain:A Memory,a short story of Joseph Conrad.Entrusted by the author's supervisor,the project is attached to the project named "A Study of Joseph Conrad's Fictions with Southeast Asia as Background".The translation is expected to be used as reference for the Study so as to promote the conduction of the project.The translation of the text belongs to literary translation.In terms of translation aesthetics,the translator adopted appropriate translating methods and strategies in accordance with the principles of translation aesthetics to represent the aesthetic features of the source text under the influence of aesthetics subject.Therefore,it is hoped that the translation project will not only provide necessary reference for the whole study,but also present the readers with a new literature work of Conrad.The report consists of four chapters,respectively describes and analyzes the translation process covering pre-translation preparation,translation and post-translation,mainly expounding project introduction,text analysis,preparation and quality control.By applying translation aesthetics theory,the translator aims to explore the translation strategies of Conrad's short stories and analyzing the typical translation problems including the translation of specific words and phrases,character discourse and rhetoric devices.Meanwhile,practical solution and strategies toward these problems are elaborated.With the comprehensive record of this translation project,the specific translation strategies of short stories are expounded and related translation experience are concluded.It is hoped that the project report can provide the relevant translation project with effective reference.
