In terms of English study,reading as the most important method for students to collect information and obtain knowledge can help students broaden their horizon and meanwhile cultivate interest in English study.On the other hand,reading counts for a large portion in English test.From which,we can know the importance and indispensable role of reading in English study.However,shouldering the training of specialized personnel,the English teaching in secondary vocational school is a big trouble.The reason lies in two aspects,one is the students in secondary school differ greatly in basic English knowledge and the reading abilities.The other is that teachers still use the traditional teaching methods which regard all the students are in the same level in English reading teaching.All these cause the high level students find it is boring and unchallengeable in reading class,while the low level students fail to finish the task for they think the tasks are too difficult for them,and as a result they are lack of interest in learning English.According to this phenomenon,the author tries to imply the graded teaching mode into reading teaching.In this study,82 students from a vocational school in Zhejiang,majoring in engineering cost are selected as the object of this study.Questionnaire and reading test are used in the research,and the results of which are analyzed by SPSS.Based on "teaching students with their aptitude","Zone of Proximal Development","Optimization of Teaching Process",this paper mainly studies the following two questions:Can graded teaching mode stimulate students'learning motivation in English reading?Can graded teaching mode efficiently improve students' reading achievement in secondary school?After four months research,the author compared the results of questionnaire and test between pre-experiment and post-experiment,which show significant difference statistically.That is to say,compared with traditional teaching mode used in control class,graded teaching in English reading can improve students,achievement more efficiently.At the same time,graded teaching can better arouse students' reading motivation.In order to realize the better effect of graded teaching in reading,teacher should personalize the teaching plan,combine the group working with the graded teaching and dynamically adjust the levels in English reading teaching.The results and suggestions of this study hope can be a reference for further study.
