In recent years, with the development of global economic internationalization, more and more people have begun to pay attention to the learning of second language. At the same time, with the popularization of students studying abroad,English as a second language has become an important language for people to pay attention to.Therefore, more and more scholars begin to study the influence of age on second language learning,in order to explore the best age which is suitable for students to learn second languages, and also have good inspiration for teachers in teaching. In 1950 s,Penfield and Roberts proposed the theory of Critical Period Hypothesis. This theory refers to a critical period in the process of language learning. After this critical period,it will be difficult for learners to learn the language. At that time, this view was generally accepted. After Penfield and Roberts, other scholars, such as Lenneberg,Krashen and so on,have further explored the theory of Critical Period Hypothesis. It is because of this hypothesis that parents will let their children start learning foreign languages at a very young age.Through the analysis of this phenomenon, the author believes that the achievement of foreign language learning has a close relationship with the students' starting age of learning English. The research on this phenomenon can help parents make clearer and wiser choices on when to learn foreign languages for their children, and help teachers to adapt themselves to children's learning methods of different age groups. To study the phenomenon,a survey was conducted by the author. The survey includes three parts: a case,a test and a questionnaire. The subjects are 30 senior high school students with an average age of 17,30 preschool children with an average age of 6,and 30 30-35-year-old adults.According to the research data, the conclusion is that, age is related to second language acquisition. That is,if the beginning age of learning English is young, then it will have an advantage in the acquisition of second language. Finally, the author puts forward some useful learning methods for students of different ages on second language learning, and also gives teachers some teaching inspiration for students of different ages.
