Internet addiction is one of the addictive behaviors.Addicts will need to extend their network use time in order to be satisfied.There will be physical and psychologically significant withdrawal responses from the Internet;overuse of the Internet will cause social functions of addicts damaged.The scale of Internet use in China has been increasing year by year.At the same time,a large number of empirical studies have proved that Internet addiction has negative impact on young people,the backbone of the Chinese nation's great dream of rejuvenation.Therefore,this study explored the mechanism of Internet addiction.In this study,a questionnaire survey was conducted and 846 college students from four universities in Jiangxi Province were investigated using the 20-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale,the Loneliness Scale,the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale,and the Chinese Internet Addiction Scale.Through the statistical methods of descriptive analysis,T-test,variance analysis,regression analysis,correlation analysis,and medial effect test analysis,the authors studied the roles of these four variables: Internet addiction,loneliness,self-esteem,and alexithymia among college students.The results are as follows:(1)There was a positive correlation between alexithymia and college students' internet addiction(? = 0.55,t = 19.12,p <0.001).The higher the score of alexithymia,the higher their internet addiction's tendency is;(2)There was a positive correlation between alexithymia and loneliness(? = 0.44,t = 14.26,p <0.001).The higher the alexithymia score,the higher the loneliness' score is;(3)There was a positive correlation between loneliness and college students' internet addiction(? = 0.55,t = 19.29,p <0.001).The higher the score of loneliness,the higher the internet addiction's tendency is;(4)Loneliness plays a part of mediating effect between the alexithymia and college students' internet addiction.The effect amount is 0.31;(5)There was a positive correlation between alexithymia and self-esteem(? =-0.37,t =-11.59,p <0.001);the higher the score of alexithymia,the lower the selfesteem's score is;(6)There was a positive correlation between self-esteem and internet addiction(? =-0.50,t =-16.81,p <0.001).The higher the self-esteem,the lower the internet addiction's tendency is;(7)Self-esteem plays a part-mediated role between the alexithymia and internet addiction among college students,and the effect is 0.23;(8)Loneliness and self-esteem play a role as a chain mediator between alexithymia and college students' internet addiction.The effect is 0.34.This study provides some theoretical support and empirical support for the intervention of college students' internet addiction.In the future's mental health education,educators should pay attention to the intervention of the alexithymia,so that contemporary college students can grow and develop better.
