A Corpus-based Study Of Translator's Style Of Zhao Luorui

Since the 1990s,corpus-based translation studies—a new research paradigm—has prospered with the development of descriptive translation studies and corpus linguistics.Translator's style is one of the major subjects of corpus-based translation studies.Daisy Miller is a masterpiece of Henry James,who is a prominent figure in American literature.Zhao Luorui translated it into Chinese in 1981.In order to make objective conlusions,the author builds three different corpora,which include Daisy Miller,Zhao's translation of Daisy Miller,and Zhao's composition My Reading Career and conducts a survey in lexical,syntactical and cohesive level via some retrieval tools like CUC_ParaConc?WordSmith 7.0?CorpusWordParser in statistical,descriptive and comparative methods.The findings of the research are as follows.In lexical level,she chooses simplification;uses more content words;takes on a modern Chinese style because of a frequent use of“?”.In syntactic level,she uses shorter sentence segments,which indicates a concise style;she uses Bei passives(???)to express positive and neutral meaning instead of negative,which is a mark of Chines Europeanization;she tends to reconstruct the adverbial clauses.Cohesively speaking,she uses less demonstrative and more personal references;she is used to choosing“?”,“?”,and“?”to achieve discourse coherence.
