Stemler(1997)states that teachers' feedback is assessment information given to students' learning performance, namely teachers' valuation of students' answers and performance in the classroom. At the same time, teachers give guidance to students' problems in the learning process so as to promote their learning. As an important part of teachers' feedback, teachers' corrective feedback is also contributive to students' learning.Carrol and Swain(1993)also indicate that students can acquire the new language and enrich language input through teachers' corrective feedback.Although more and more scholars study teachers' feedback in the foreign language field, there exist many problems in current researches. For instance, most researches focus on theoretical analysis.Furthermore, many researches mainly explore teachers' corrective feedback in the junior high school or college, while insufficient attention is paid to the influence of teachers' corrective feedback on students' learning motivation in the senior high school. What's more, the frequency of teachers' use of feedback in the classroom is not so much, especially the use of corrective feedback. Therefore, based on Lyster and Ranta's(1997)six types of corrective feedback,Deci and Ryan's(1985)two sorts of learning motivation, this thesis explores the influence of teachers' corrective feedback on students' English learning motivation in the senior high school. The participants in this research are three English teachers randomly chosen in Chengdu Longquan No.1 High School and 118 students taught in the three classes by the three teachers.Through classroom observation and audio-recording,questionnaire,interview,this thesis mainly aims to explore the following three research questions:(1)What is the students' attitude towards teachers' corrective feedback in the classroom?(2)What are the differences and similarities between teachers' and students' preferences for different types of corrective feedback?(3)What is the influence of teachers' corrective feedback on students' English learning motivation?Through analyzing and discussion of the data, the following research results can be summed up:(1)in terms of students' attitude towards teachers' corrective feedback,81.4% students hope that teachers can give them corrective feedback to their errors in the classroom;(2)as to the differences and similarities between students' and teachers' preferences for the different types of corrective feedback, firstly, elicitation is the most popular type of corrective feedback among students and teachers.Recast ranks the second, while neither students nor teachers have preference for metalinguistic feedback; Then, there is a difference in the preference for explicit correction. The proportion of teachers' use of explicit correction takes up 9%,while 17% students state that they can recognize their errors if teachers correct their mistakes directly;(3)What's more, teachers' corrective feedback has positive influence on students' intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation.Nonetheless, the influence on students' extrinsic motivation is more apparent than that on students' intrinsic motivation.According to the results, the author puts forward some suggestions to contribute to promoting the positive influence of teachers' corrective feedback on students' learning motivation, which is hoped to make little contribution to the further research and the foreign language teaching.
