Vernacular architecture is a folk spontaneous building, which reflects the unique regional culture and ethnic characteristics, contains rich historical and humanistic information, and is a typical representative of traditional farming culture. The protection of vernacular architecture is of great significance for the inheriting and developing China’s excellent farming culture.Temple architecture,as a kind of rural architectural heritage,is an important carrier of ancient farming culture in China, which provides important material information for us to study traditional Chinese folk culture. However, after modern times,as the folk beliefs carried by the temple buildings were dismissed as feudal superstition, these ancient buildings that worship the gods were dealt a devastating blow. Most of the temple buildings that had lost their original function were destroyed, and only a few of them were used for other purposes and survived by luck.Today, with the transformation of society and the development of the countryside,a few of these temple buildings which have been preserved as village primary schools or collective warehouses have been suffered the fate of being abandoned again.Nowadays, most of them have become dilapidated and face the risk of collapsing. These beautiful ancient buildings, which carry historical memory and rich in history and culture, are constantly disappearing in the destruction. In this paper, the original and modern functions of temple buildings are analyzed and studied with the aid of local chronicles, inscriptions and other documents. At the same time, through field investigation, interviews with villagers and other methods to influence the temple building protection and inheritance constraints were analyzed.Based on the analysis of the modern functions and restricting factors of protection of temple buildings, this paper probes into the strategies of temple protection and inheritance from the aspects of strengthening the emotional connection between temple buildings and aboriginal people and giving full play to modern functions. We hope to contribute to the protection and inheritance of the temple buildings and similar distribution in the local village but not attached importance.
