Research On The Beijing Opera "Generals Of The Luo Family"

Generals of the Luo Family is a series of influential stories in the Sui and Tang dynasties.It has always been loved by readers.On the stage of Beijing Opera,the plays such as Jiao Guan,Xiao Xian,Jie Pai Guan,Dui Hua Qiang are also very well-known.The adaptation of opera is of profound significance for the development of the Sui and Tang stories.Thus the Beijing Opera,as an epitome of Chinese opera,was even more powerful.However,few academic papers use the Beijing opera Generals of the Luo Family as the research object so far,and most of them have isolated the origin and development of the play from the performance.Therefore,this paper intends to systematically discuss the Beijing opera Generals of the Luo Family with the capacity of master's degree thesis.It should be pointed out that the "Sui and Tang Stories" in this paper refer to all forms of interpretation of historical figures and events in the Sui and Tang Dynasties,including novels,operas,saying and singing and so on.When a playwright composes a Beijing opera,he often learns from novel texts,legendary works,saying and singing literature and local operas and makes creation on that basis.Meanwhile,Beijing Opera is a performance-centered art,whose form overweighs the content.The famous actor may even have a decisive influence on a certain play.Therefore,the examination of the rise and fall of the Beijing opera Generals of the Luo Family must be combined with performances.Accordingly,this article is divided into three chapters.The first chapter traces the origins of the Beijing opera Generals of the Luo Family.According to the source of the story,it divides the Generals of the Luo Family into four categories,namely,from the Sui Tang novels,legendary works,saying and singing literature,and local opera.The second chapter is the performance history of Peking Opera Generals of the Luo Family.It describes the performances of the opera in the late Qing Dynasty,the Republic of China,and after the founding of the People's Republic of China.It also provides a glimpse of key elements such as the formation,prosperity,decline,and revival of Beijing Opera.The third chapter is the revelation of Generals of the Luo Family.Taking the Beijing opera Generals of the Luo Family as the starting point,it discusses the rise and fall of heroic legend drama since the late Qing Dynasty.Thus,it detects the transition of operas and cultural regulations and reflects on the realistic situation and development prospects of the Sui Tang Operas by combining the current cultural context and the audience's aesthetic tastes.In general,since the Luo family belonged to a relatively supporting character in the stories of the Sui and Tang dynasties and most of the characters died prematurely,there are not many materials that can be adapted,and there are relatively few repertoires.However,the plays that depict the death of Luo Cheng and Luo Tong such as Luo ChengJiao Guan and Jie Pai Guan have been active on the stage for a long period of time and been constantly improved.These plays were highly acclaimed because of the repeated temperament of the actors of generation after generation.Taking Jiao Guan as an example,it was performed by generations of famous artists such as Xu Xiaoxiang,De Yiru,Zhu Suyun,Jiang Miaoxiang and so on.It was carried forward by Ye Shenglan and achieved all-time high.On the contrary,the plays Jue Yan Ling,Dong Ling Guan,Dou Xian Niang and so on gradually fade out,which is attributed to the lack of successors of Wusheng and female roles in Huang School.Dui Hua Qiang is a successful case of Beijing opera borrowing from local operas.In the late Qing Dynasty,the heroic legend drama represented by Generals of the Luo Family was declining.This was due to the competition within the profession and different schools,and was also affected by the background of the times and the influence of ideology.At the moment,how the Beijing Opera "Sui Tang Opera" should move in a timely manner so as to attract more audience back is a question worth considering,and it is also a direction to work hard.
