The Revival And Prosperity Of Military Literature Creation

The PLA Literature and Art,“the first public nationwide literary periodicalof the Chinese People's Liberation Army(PLA)”,is founded and published by the general political department.As a “comprehensive literary and artistic publication”,it has gradually consolidatedits irreplaceable position in constructing and developing military culturesince founded inJune 1951.Ithas extremely significant influencenot only on publishing literary works of various genres,expanding the depth and breadth of literary creation,but also on paying attention to interacting with the times,shaping new images,cultivatinginnovative creators,and improving esthetic level of readers.Althoughthe settled diachronic studies of literary history have relatively reasonable research methods and theoretical practices,itsprogress,introduction,and innovationare sometimes overlookedduring transitional period and linked stage.The integral study on the PLA Literature and Art in early stage of the new periodreflects that China's militaryliterature creation in linked stage actively innovates subjects and forms on the basis of holding the army ideological mainstream,in spite of being affected by the previous literary and artistic trend of thoughts in special historical stage to some extend.This portrait potentially coincides with the overall situation of China's literary and artistic front,and instructscontemporary military literaturecreation and practice.In addition to the introduction,this thesis includes five parts,probing into the periodical context,the philosophy,the editing features,the text prospect,and the cultural reflectionof the PLA Literature and Art in early stage of the new period.The introduction mainly discusses the research object and significance of this thesis,the present researchsituation,the research methods,etc,and puts forward the deficiency of previous studies so that to realize the innovation of the thesis.The first chapter is about the historical context of the restoration and development of the PLA Literatureand Art in early stage of the new period.After “the Cultural Revolution ",bringing orders out of chaos had become the theme of the times,into which the people from all walks of life devoted and joined.Meanwhile,the military literary and artistic policy adjustment directly and greatlyaffected the military literature creation.Sino-Vietnamese War broke outin China's southern Xinjiang shortly after the end of the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee,thereforea large numberofwriters and creators dedicated into the front and barracks,engaging in interviews and creation before and after the war.It had greatly enriched theliterary creation in early stageof the new period,and set off a " new wave "of military literature creation.The development of literature and art was under the deep influence of literary ideological trend and creating thoughts.Literature and art began to consider the problem of realistic tradition renaissance after the debate on the criterion for truth,from essentialism to establishing authentic principles,andwidely accepting the proposition that " literature is about human being ",which demonstrated the interactions among creators,readers and critics.On the other hand,the themes as " a soldier is a person and "a hero is a person" are finally established in this process,whichgreatly influenced military literature creation in the new period.The second chapter analyzes the philosophy of running the periodical based on the text of the PLA Literature and Art in early stage of the new period.The philosophy of the PLA Literature and Art mainly reflected in several aspects,such as the purpose,service consciousness and popularization of military literature and art.Since its inception,the PLA Literature and Art had adhered to the principle of keeping close to the times,reality,and the force,and shaped the new images who were in line with them.Affected by the“left-leaning” in vogue,military literature creation lost its "service" attribute in a certain period of time and become political accessory.As bringing order out of chaos gradually proceeded in early stage of the new period,the PLA Literature and Art began to return to the route of serving country,serving people and serving army,in order to enrich people,guide people,cultivate people and shape people through literary and artistic works.Furthermore,responding to the policies and the needs of development,it increased popularization and acceptance from the breadth and depth of military literature creation,and obtained certain achievements,which had a special and extensive influence in the transitional period.The third chapter discusses the editing features ofthe PLA Literature and Art inearly stage of the new period from the aspects of column setting,cultivation of creators,aesthetic improvement of readers and art design.Editing is the soul of periodicals.The PLA literature and Art in early stage of the new period rather than used a narrow column to classify and edit articles,but set from the ontology of literary creation,which made the edit and design more flexible,and attracted readers through the true nature ofliterature.The editorial department of the PLA Literature and Artattached great importance tocultivatingcreators and motivating creation by setting up the informal essays,essays,awards and other ways.At the same time,it also enhanced readers' aesthetic level through literary review,works appreciation and articles reaction,making a great contribution to constructing military literary creation force and improving readers' acceptance ability.The PLA Literature andArt placed great emphasis on art design since its inception.The variety of art design helped enrich the content of periodical,give readers direct perception,and make the readers enjoy appreciating the beauty ofliterary and artistic works as well as the aesthetic periodical itself.The fourth chapter analyzes the text prospect ofthe PLA Literature and Art in early stage of the new period.Shaping the artistic images of the senior revolutionaries,making concrete practice of "fighting" by literary creation,creatively and fullydescribing in-and-out-of the military life,as well as exploring and recreating the "New Long March" and " Big Transfer",it pictured a beautiful scroll of the growing military literature in the revolution.The fifth chapter confirms the PLA Literature and Art's value in style practice,cultural reflection and subject deepening,based on the practice and progress resulted from the reform and development in early stage of the new period.Moreover,it also admits the problem of insufficient depth in individual artistic creation and looks forward to its furtherimprovement and development.
