A Study On The Protection And Development Of Modern Period Architectures In The Zhifu District

At present,China is in a rapid process of urbanization.The conflict between the protection of cultural heritage and urban development is increasingly prominent.The local heritage is the testimony of the city’s history.They preserved the historical memory of the city.In other words,the protection of designated heritage is of great significance in the development of modern cities which formulates a foundation for the construction of characteristic cities.Most of the modern period architectures in the Zhifu district remain some characteristics generated from Yantai’s modern history as an open city.With unique regional characteristics,they become important components of the urban fabric by reflecting the development of the urban area and representing the cultural constitution of the port city.To a certain extent,they have become the image of the city.The protection of modern period Chinese architectures is of great significance in studying their historical evolution as well as nowadays sustainable development.This research reviews the legislation and regulations related to the protection of historical relics and architectures as well as theoretical research from experts and scholars on the conservation of modern period cultural heritages.In addition,it studies the advanced experience world wide,briefly interprets the historical background of Yantai and its modern period architectures and describes the historical information,protection and utilization of selected architectures case by case.Advantages and disadvantages of current protection and utilization works are analyzed,and problems recognized in the sustainable development of these modern architectures are discussed.The dissertation is divided into four parts:the first part is the introduction,which mainly reviews existing laws and related theories.In addition,research strategy and methodology utilized as well as the original contribution and significance of the study are illustrated.The second part illustrates the current situation of modern period architectures in the Zhifu district.The third part analyzes the current situation of modern period cultural architectures as well as the existing problems.The fourth part explores potential solutions.Meanwhile,for the better protection and development of modern period architectures in the Zhifu district,suggestions are provided in Chapter 4.
