Instructional directives given by the teachers in EFL classes are one of the vital components in teacher talks,which are also one of the most important sources of students' L2 acquisition.Teachers' instructional directives are important means to organize class and maintain teaching.Students' understanding and execution of instruction directly has effect on the whole teaching.The quality of teachers' instructional directives also influence the acquisition and development of the students' second language acquisition.This study conducted a total of 480 minutes of classroom observation and recording of three novice and expert teachers in Huangshi N14 school.This paper attempts to compare and analyze the similarities and differences between novice teachers and expert teachers.Then the author obtains some meaningful findings.Based on the comparison and analysis of the number of Teacher's instructional directives and the characteristics of them,the author hopes to sum up the factors that influence the selection of these instructions by novice and expert teachers.Finally,the author puts forward some improvement measures.At the same time,through the interview of three novice and expert teachers and students,the causes of invalid instruction are analyzed,and the relevant countermeasures and the principles of effective instruction are put forward as well.The results of this study provide some important implications for junior high school English teachers.First,teachers' instructions should be clear,concise and easy,which is in line with the students' existing cognitive level and ability to avoid invalid instructions.Second,the teacher should emphasize key words when issuing instructions that are more difficult to understand and have longer sentences.Third,teachers giving the instructions should aim at improving the interaction of class participation.Fourth,teachers should use body language and facial expressions to explain the instructions if necessary,so that students can better understand them.
