Junior English teaching is divided into four main parts:listening,speaking,reading and writing.Reading is the most important skill of these four parts.The English curriculum for junior high school also emphasize the importance of cultivating students' reading ability.However,it is found that English reading is a weak link of students' study.As a kind of effective visual tool for graphical thinking,Mind Map can expresses the relations between the topics and details and show it in a hierarchical graphs that is related to each other,and it can also establish memory links between the key words,images,colors,etc.So Mind Map can improve people' s comprehension,memory and creative thinking skills.Therefore,this study attempts to apply Mind Maps to reading in rural junior high school,especially use it into narrative and expository materials to test whether the students' reading ability can improve by using this tool.This study based on the students in Grade eight Class one in Chang' an Middle School with literature research methods,questionnaire survey methods and interview methods,etc.This study lasts for one semester.And the following aspects were mainly studied in this paper:first,understand the latest research state of Mind Map native and abroad,and fully understand the theories related to this experiment.Secondly,it analyzes the reading materials in English textbooks of junior high school,and summarizes the characteristics of reading materials in explanatory texts and narrations.It also designs a reference map for these two kinds of materials and the specific teaching steps for reading class according to the actual situation of the students and the characteristics of Mind Map.Third,get four conclusions through data analysis and interview analysis:1.Mind Map can help students to understand articles and memorize them effectively.2.The reading grades of rural junior high school students can be improved by using Mind Map.3.Using Mind Map can help reduce the academic burden on rural junior middle school students.4.The use of mind maps help improve rural junior high school students'interest in reading.At the same time,the author also meet the following problems in the research:1.There is a big difference in students' grades.2.The teaching evaluation method is single.3.It is difficult to complete the map quickly.Finally,the author proposes some suggestions for these problems.
