Applied Research In Information Design In Museum Display

With the innovation and development of science and technology,the surging amount of information causes information to fill life in all aspects,and the "information explosion" and"information anxiety" have become hot topics discussed by the public.Meanwhile,people living in the diversified environment created by vast amounts of information are having an increasing demand for clarity and conciseness of information.Museum provides an site for the display of history,art,folk-custom cultural sites,data collection,restoration,treasure,archaeology and research,and also it is an educational institution offering people knowledge,education,appreciation,learning and research.Hence,museum has become an important symbolic site of cultural development,and it has also become an essential information center for the public to know about the history,to understand the world and to have a contact with the society.Museum bears the responsibility to showcase the public the cumbersome natural and cultural heritage of mankind.With the surging amount of museums,people are surrounded by excessively inundant information displayed by museums,and there are increasingly prominent phenomenon of "ambiguously described information","hunger for information" etc.Thus,the public are eager for a clear and clean environment for visual reading.While the rational collection,processing and dissemination of information in the museum display are effective ways to deal with existing problems in this respect.After a long-time data collection and the on-site inspection of Shenyang Aviation Exposition Park,the author concludes the research findings based on his understanding of museum display design and the concept of information design.In this paper,the information design is integrated with the concept of museum display design to illustrate the meaning of information design in the museum display.In addition,existing information problems in the display of Shenyang Aviation Exposition Park are analyzed with the providing of generalized ways of thinking and paths of design to offer an efficient dissemination of information in the museum display.This paper includes five parts,and in the first part,the development background of information design is organized,including knowledge of information design and the overview of the latest research findings,which lays a foundation for the following study.In the second part,concepts concerning museum display and information design are discussed and illustrated,and the author studies the possibility to apply information design to the museum display from the perspective of its academic value and application value as well as function,taking principles,semiotics,logic and cognitive psychology as the powerful theoretical support.In the third part,the author organizes the way of information design appropriate for the museum display environment by introducing the design ideas and application principles adopted by the information design of museum display based on various visual elements of information design.In the fourth part,the general plan of Shenyang Aviation Exposition Park is adopted as an empirical case for the analysis of visually constitutional elements as well as features and defects of information design in the museum display,so as to make the Park give its importance as a disseminator and personalized development to a full play and achieve a sustainable development.In the final part,the author tries to find solutions to deal with the universally spread problems in Chinese museums,and then carries out prospective research in the design of the museum display based on the status quo of technological development and development trend of information in the museum display.On the basis of the above analysis in five aspects,the author is intended to conduct a better integration of information design and the museum display,so as to let the museum display design more perfect and imagine as well as explore the future development of information design in the museum display.
