Amon g the four basic skills(listening,speaking,reading and writing)of English learners,writing is the most crucial part of output and is attracting more and more attention in high school English teaching.It can be seen from students' compositions that high school students have many difficulties in language expression,especially the errors of the verb,accounting for more than half of all errors.However,no effective method has been taken to solve this problem so far.Therefore,how to solve the frequent errors of verbs in students' English compositions has become a key issue that senior high school teachers need to study and solve urgently.The influence of mother tongue on foreign language learning has been increasingly concerned by scholars for a long time,which can be divided into positive transfer of mother tongue and negative transfer of mother tongue.Positive transfer promotes foreign language learning,while negative transfer hinders the effective conduct of foreign language learning.Studying what the effect of mother tongue negative transfer on the use of verbs in high school students' English writing is,what problems will arise and the reasons for it can help students learn English verbs more efficiently,so as to avoid errors caused by negative transfer of mother tongue.Based on the literature review,this study finds that there are the following characteristics in the study of language transfer: the research of language transfer abroad is quite abundant,but the impact on Chinese learners is obviously insufficient;the domestic research about the influence of language transfer on Chinese students' English output is increasing day by day,however,most of them adopt the methods of questionnaire survey and sampling survey,and few of them have extensive coverage.On the basis of language transfer,contrastive analysis and error analysis,the purpose of this study is to explore the influence of mother tongue negative transfer on the use of verbs in Chinese high school students' English writing.Two research questions are involved in this study:1.What types of verb errors frequently occur in Chinese high school students' English writing?2.What are the causes of mother tongue negative transfer in the use of verbs in Chinese senior high school students' English writing?The object of this study is the sub corpus ST2 of CLEC: Chinese high school students' English composition.In this study,the retrieval software is used to search 30 representativehigh-frequency verbs in CLEC,combined with data statistics and analysis to find out the errors in the use of several most frequent verbs.The findings are as follows: firstly,high school students' errors in the use of verbs mainly focus on these types of errors,namely,the misuse of verb transitivity,the misuse of subject-verb agreement,the misuse of verb tense,the misuse of non finite verbs,and the misuse of the verb voice.Secondly,by analyzing the different use habits of English and Chinese verbs in all aspects,this study can obtain the reasons for mother tongue negative transfer on the use of verbs in senior high school students' English writing.More concretely,that is,the differences between Chinese and English verbs in transitivity system,in terms of subject-verb agreement,in tense system,in the use of non finite verbs and in voice aspect.In conclusion,this study conscientiously explores the reasons why mother tongue causes negative transfer of verb usage,analyzes the typical errors collected as a template,and points out that teachers should hold different attitudes and different ways of correcting errors according to the different sources of errors.
