A Study On The Lexical Characteristics Of The Military News Discourse In The Red Star

The stylistics of functional discourse breaks the limitation of structural linguistics,combines discourse linguistics with functional stylistics,and studies the stylistic functions of the discourse categories,which is a field of great potential for linguistics.The military news discourse is a kind of expressive form about Russian standard language in the military field.It is a special functional style of high research value.However,the linguistic characteristics of Russian military news discourse have not been attached adequate importance by linguists at home and abroad.Red Star is a newspaper,which is the central press organ of the Ministry of Russian Federation’s Defense.With its military news discourse as the corpus,its stylistic attribute is determined as the political commentary style,which can be classified into four main genres: newsletter,interview,report and feature.The peculiarities of the military news discourse is also reflected in the fact that it has the attributes of the official business style and the scientific style.The lexical characteristics of the military news discourse in the Red Star are as follows: it involves the lexis of various fields,uses military terms widely,and uses loanwords,metaphor and metonymy actively.Besides,the extensive use of military terms is one of the most striking differences between military news discourse and other news discourses.Abbreviations occupy a large proportion in the military terms.And its main abbreviation is the phrasal abbreviations.Loanwords can be divided into four categories: naturalized words,international words,interracial words and counterfeit words.Metaphor and metonymy are widely used in the military news discourse of the Red Star.Based on the theory of functional style,the study on the lexical characteristics of the military news discourse in the Red Star from the perspective of discourse linguistics can not only validate the theory of Russian linguistics but also help people to further understand the military news discourse and at the same time help to teach the Russian language.
