This research study covered the four early works by David Lynch during 1967 to 1976.Three of them were the short films done by Lynch during his college time,such as "Six Men Getting Sick” in 1967,"The Alphabet" in 1967,and "Grandmother" in 1970.And the study also covered Lynch's very first full-length film "Eraser head" in 1976.The ten-year time capacity constituted the specific historical background for analyzing David Lynch's early film works especially focused on his cultural phenomenon.It is interesting to point that the New Hollywood film movement and the rising sign of David Lynch's early aesthetic style actually shared the same time period.Moreover,the study aimed to draw a bigger picture from the external social factors to the internal mental reasons that happen to “Lynchian” art style with the detailed analysis on examine each of his four film creations.The introduction mainly discussed the background and task of this study,carefully categorized the present national and international wide research base on David Lynch's cinematic art.Also,ended with new conclusion and innovative concepts according to the Lynch's film works.Chapter one firstly gave a summary of the early four film works of David Lynch.Then went further with explaining the two main aesthetic influences that build certain characteristics on Lynch's art creations: the painters' image impression and the European film movements.Chapter two tried to decode the mysterious and complex auteur system of David Lynch's strange world.By illustrating the depression and anxiety mental symptoms,people could better understand why Lynch insisted on presenting his films in an irreplaceable “painter system” director view.Chapter three targeted at the abnormal Lynchian performing routine,by analyzing the actors' performing method,verses,and physical action that in all would help to label the acting as a shocking experience and thus became an important component of the Lynchian metaphor fits into the whole picture.Chapter four mainly focused on Lynch's perspective on reconstructing the mass media culture as well as the traditional American dream values.Lynch who made himself a pioneer on exploring the limbo area between the personal fragile sub consciousness and large social machine that usually creates chaos to people's life.By taking a close review to David Lynch's early films and decoding the inside iconic Lychian symbols,the study would be capable to find the blurring while clear inter connections between the early cinematic works and his later ones.With the support of the various conclusions that base on Lynch's films,the lost image,even though sometimes seem to be abstract and invisible,has always been the centered aesthetic through out the Lynch works.
