Since 1970 s,with the coming of cultural turn in translation,people have paid more and more attention to the cultural factors in translation.These factors include politics,history,religion,ethnicity,etc.They play an important role in the process of translation as different forms of culture.As one of the representatives of cultural turn,Andre Lefebvre put forward a famous rewriting theory in this context.He believes that translation is a kind of rewriting.In the process of translation,the translator will be manipulated by three factors of ideology,poetic,and patronage.“Cultural soft power” is one of the key words in recent years all over the world,papercutting,a unique folk culture of China,has made outstanding contribution to world civilization.Besides,as an important cultural carrier,paper-cutting plays an irreplaceable role in communication.This translation practice report is going to choose Chinese Style · the Introduction of Paper-cutting as a practical material,and try to translate it.The material is on Chinese folk art of paper-cutting.The purpose of translation is to make more foreigners know more about the art of Chinese paper-cutting.In this practice,the translator will combine the rewriting theory and folklore culture,and choose appropriate translation strategies and translation methods to solve the problems encountered in the process of translation.It has great application value to the development of paper-cutting and the going out of Chinese folk culture.In order to faithfully reproduce the original message,this translation practice will focus on the three elements of rewriting theory: Ideology,poetic and patronage,and connecting with the concrete translation methods: literal translation,free translation,and omission,etc.This translation practice report contains five parts: The first part is the introduction of the translation task,namely the background,theoretical significance and application value of the translated text.The second part is the theoretical guidance of translation practice,which elaborates the theory applied in this translation report,namely rewriting theory.The third part is the description about the process on translation,including preparation before translating,textual reading and analysis of the translated text.The fourth part is the application of rewriting theory in the translation practice of Chinese Style · the Introduction of Paper-cutting.(From three aspects: ideology,poetic and patronage for the translation analysis)The fifth part summarizes the experience,revelation,the prospect of translation and the expression of the translator's thanks.The appendix is accompanied by text of the original text and translated text.
