With the rapid development of information technology,the use of computers can be seen everywhere,and the development of information technology provides a more advanced and effective teaching method for the education field.The fourth part of the Standard for New Senior High School English Curriculum formulated by the Ministry of Education of China clearly states that teachers should make full use of modern technology educational,develop English teaching resources,expand students' learning channels,improve students' learning methods,and improve students' learning efficiency.Therefore,the auxiliary role of multimedia technology in the field of foreign language teaching has increasingly attracted the attention of teachers.Multimodal PPT integrates multiple modalities such as text,pictures,audio,video,and animation into a single unit.Together,it has expand the teaching resources,and convenient operation methods create more diverse and realistic scenarios for English classroom teaching.However,due to differences in the individual ability of teachers,the quality of multimodal PPT courseware is often uneven,and the quality of teaching is also affected by different PPT.Therefore,how to improve teachers' ability to produce multimodal PPT courseware has become an urgent problem.Based on the theory of multimodal discourse analysis,this article refers to a number of domestic and foreign literatures,and adopts questionnaires,interviews,and classroom observations.It mainly investigates teachers and students' attitudes and expectations for multimodal PPT teaching.And problems come out when teachers use multimodal PPT teaching.After the rigorous material collation and analysis,the author hopes to provide some reasonable and effective suggestions for improving the quality of PPT and English teaching efficiency of high school English teachers.This study collected 326 valid student questionnaires and 30 valid teacher questionnaires for eight classes in three schools and 500 PPTs.Research shows thatteachers and students generally agree with multimodal PPT teaching.In terms of teaching modality,teachers are more inclined to use text mode and picture mode in PPT courseware,while students show a great deal of interest of video mode and animation mode.The use of a variety of modalities makes it easier for students to grasp the teaching focus and difficulties and make the impression deeply.According to the survey,the main problems in the multimodal PPT courseware used by teachers are incorrect choice of modality,misuse of points,overuse of text,and unreasonable color matching.Teachers should further solve these problems in their future teaching.To solve the above problems,this paper puts forward the following suggestions for multimodal PPT teaching: multimodal PPT teaching is used in conjunction with traditional board teaching;multiple modalities are used together;PPT courseware design should focus;clear multimodal PPT courseware assisted status;providing teachers with more learning opportunities.However,due to the actual control of time,space and other reasons,the sample size is not large enough,the research period is not long enough,and there are certain limitations in the research.Therefore,the research issues presented in the paper still need to be further extended.
