Post-colonial eco-criticism is a multi-dimensional extension of ecological criticism in the post-colonial direction, originated from the intervention of post-colonial critics on eco-criticism.It is an interdisciplinary research based on post-colonial criticism and eco-criticism.It studies and criticizes eco-imperialism in literature, discusses environmental ethics in post-colonial literature, and particularly seeks environmental justice between the developed and developing countries and criticizes centralism at the western environmental and cultural level.Post-colonial ecological criticism is an inevitable trend of interdisciplinary research on ecological criticism,it reflects the discourse tactics of post-colonial scholars intervening in western ecological criticism, and presents the common responsibility of eastern and western eco-criticism under global development. The development of this criticism also helps to establish a communicative bridge between ecological criticism in China and western eco-criticism.Tim Winton, one of the most famous and prolific native writers in contemporary Australia. His works focus on the relationship between animal, nature and human beings, and Winton vividly portrays the ordinary life of unknown people and socially marginalized people in the post-colonial period. In many Winton's works,we choose three representative novels:Shallow,Breath, and Dirt Music.Shallow, taking Australian colonial history as its context, has always focused on whale turmoil in the seaside town of Western Australia at the end of the seventies.Tim Winton accurately captures the town's inhabitants' crazy enthusiasm for whaling and the lethal shock to Angles by whaling and anti-whaling forces,in order to accuse colonists of devastating and destroying Australia's native ecology in post-colonial history.Breath is a bildungsroman based on the ocean and surfing. It is not only an Australian writer who uses works to think about national history and identity reconstruction, but also exposes and criticizes hegemony and thinks about the future of nation under the background of global development. However,Dirt Music focuses on the marginalized people who are in the mainstream society. They are far away from their own living environment and have to make choices in the face of the strong impact of old and new cultural values. They also cast doubt on their own identity issues. All three works infiltrate author's critique of the imbalance of natural ecology, social ecology and spiritual ecology, but Winton did not stop here.On the contrary,he also thinks about how to gradually reduce or even eliminate the state of crisis so as to achieve the goal of being harmony among nature, people and society.Post-colonial ecological criticism is a product of mutual reference and integration of post-colonial theory and ecological criticism,a new perspective in the field of literary criticism.Animal reproduction, the marine environment, people and land are elements that can not be ignored in the works of Australian novelist Tim Winton.Due to the special post-colonial historical background in Australia,Tim Winton's works are inevitably marked with post-colony imprint deeply.Therefore,eco-criticism in the post-colonial context is entirely appropriate for us to interpret Tim Winton's works. This essay includes introduction, conclusion, and four additional chapters. The introduction mainly includes four aspects:Tim Winton and his works;reviews of the current research situation at home and abroad;theoretical foundations;the structure and importance of the thesis. The second chapter, the third chapter and the fourth chapter respectively discusses in detail the post-colonial ecological themes embodied in the three works of Tim Winton from natural ecological crisis, social ecological crisis and spiritual ecological crisis.Chapter Five analyzes how the author uses his works to express his ideal state that he wants to pursue ecological balance, awakening of self-consciousness and regaining national identity in post-colonial era so as to achieve the harmonious development of man, nature and society.Chapter Six is the overall summary of this thesis and concludes the feasibility of this topic -interpreting Tim Winton's works from the perspective of post-colonial eco-criticism.And Chapter Six also discusses the significance of this topic to today's society.
