This dissertation conducts a research focused on the novel Disappearance written by the distinguished Guyanese writer David Dabydeen from the perspective of post-colonialism.Through the combination of theoretical analysis and textual scrutiny, the plot, characterization and theme of the novel are deeply interpreted. The novel Disappearance describes the story of a Guyanese engineer who went to build a sea dam in the United Kingdom. The large-scale dialogues between characters and meticulous psychological description are the highlights in the creation of the fiction.First of all, this thesis uses the literature research method, through the retrieval and analysis of relevant literature,to further understand the history and status quo of the research on David Dabydeen and his works. What's more, this thesis makes a thorough analysis of the novel by using descriptive research method and conceptual analysis method.Using the relevant theories of power network relations and the operation of power in Foucault's power discourse theory, the overall plot development of the novel is analyzed, and the plot of the novel is clearly presented in different power network relationships. The in-depth analysis of the characterization of the novel is based on the related theories expressed by Said in his theoretical book Orientalism.By combining the views of Said to the deconstruction and criticism of traditional Orientalism with the psychological changes, relationship changes and cognitive changes of the characters',the thesis analyzes the author's characterization in the novel.Through the expounding of the writing purpose of the book Orientalism written by Edward Said, the thematic significance of the novel is further explored. At last, from a relatively new research perspective, this thesis concludes that the author's overall plot outlines the three-dimensional representation of the rights network relationship in the story environment and subtly reveals the relationship between rights and knowledge. At the same time, breaking through the restrictions and constraints of traditional Orientalism, the author reshapes the image of black people of African ancestry in the West India and the relationship between black and white people. In terms of the presentation of the theme of the novel,as the theme of the layers of deepening, the author further deepens it from the surface to the center, and extends the disappearance of the concrete existence to the expectations ofthe disappearance of racial discrimination and hegemonism at the abstract level.Meanwhile, the protagonist's perplexity and quest for his identity are also gradually intensified under the influence of Orientalism.
