Heinrich von Kleist(1777-1811)is a classic writer in the history of German literature.Compared with other writers of the same period,Kleist is a visionary of confusion and entanglement of modern society who revealed cognitive crisis and existence anxieties.The cognitive crisis refers to Kleist’s epistemological shift under influence of Kant’s and Fichte’s philosophy,his epistemology developed from enlightenment optimism to cognitive pessimism featuring question about cognition ability and approach.This article uses Kant’s and Fichte’s epistemology to define the causes and concepts of Kleist’s cognitive crisis,and on this basis,selects the most representative three novels of Kleist,Die Marquise von O,Der Findling and Michael Kohlhaas as research objects to reveal the manifestations of the cognitive crisis theme in the novel and the metaphor of the time crisis.The article firstly briefly introduces Kleist’s life and works,then describes the research status of Kleist’s novels at home and abroad and analyzes the research significance of Kleist’s cognitive crisis.On the basis of defining Kleist’s cognitive crisis,this article focuses on interpretation of U-shaped prototype in sight of historical philosophy,metaphor and parody in sight of novel theme and cultural criticism in sight of enlightenment reflection,to summarize modernity value of cognitive crisis.
