Intercultural communication has developed much with the deepening of globalization.Intercultural English teaching in our country occupies a greater proportion and thus put forward higher requirements for English teachers.To learn advanced foreign intercultural English teaching approaches is of great benefit.The translation material of this report is selected from An Intercultural Approach to English Language Teaching(Chapter 4),which belongs to academic genre.This teaching textbook focuses on intercultural approach in English teaching.The writing style of this material is rigorous on expression and structure with strict logic.Eugene Nida put forward the theory of dynamic equivalence based on the nature of translation from the linguistic aspects,and later develops it into functional equivalence theory.In his opinion,the translation should achieve the equivalence in semantics,style and genre in addition to the equivalence in lexical meaning.Among these three aspects of equivalence,the equivalence of meaning is the most important,followed by formal equivalence.The information conveyed by translation includes both lexical information and cultural connotation.Thus,meaning is more important rather than formal rigid equivalence,so as to achieve the effect of accurately reproduction of the source language culture and elimination of the cultural differences in translation.This has important guiding significance in the selection of translation strategies and translation practice.Based on Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory,this report classifies the problems encountered in the process of translation,focusing on the analysis of vocabulary,clauses and sentences,and texts,and selects the most appropriate translation strategies for different examples,thus obtaining a more perfect translation.The examples are further detailed into polysemic words,general words,anaphoric words,terminologies and phrases in the category of vocabulary;passive sentences,attributive clauses and complex sentences in the category of clauses and sentences;texts relating cohesion and genre in the category of texts.This report attempts to provide an appropriate idea for the translation of the corresponding types of materials for the future translators by the analysis of the problems and the constantly revising of the translation.
