English Curricular Standard(version 2017)in the Phase of Compulsory Education puts forward more stringent requirements on the five levels of English listening skills.As the English listening test is included in the scope of senior high school entrance examination,more and more English teachers are aware of the importance of the training of English listening.However,listening skills are considered to be one of the most difficult skills to master in English learning.As the beginner of English,junior high school students still have many problems in listening learning.In addition,the research on English listening teaching in middle school is still in the exploration stage,therefore,the teaching effect has not lived up to expectations.The research of this paper is supported by schema theory,input hypothesis theory and monitor theory.The aim of this paper is to research junior high school students‘ difficulties in listening comprehension and the effective listening strategies.The research subjects of this paper are all students from Grade 2 of Nanchang Junior High School in Shenyang City,Liaoning Province,284 students totally.There are three research questions:1.What are the barriers of students in English listening learning in junior high school?2.What kinds of strategies do they use?3.What are the correlations between different listening strategies and listening achievements?The research instruments in this paper include listening test,two questionnaires and interview.In order to ensure the credibility of the survey results,the reliability and validity of the questionnaire were analyzed,and SPSS is carried out for the descriptive analysis and Pearson correlation statistic analysis of the data.The research shows that the strategies used by students most frequently are social/affective strategies.The main barriers of English listening in junior high school can be divided into three categories: basic knowledge,listening skills and psychological problems.And the appliction of three kinds of strategies has a positive,varying degrees correlation with listening acheivements.This study provides some suggestions for the teaching of English listening.Inevitably,there are some limitations in this study,but it will be of great guiding significance to the further research on English listening.
