Study On The Relationship Between Historical And Cultural District Renewal And Place Identity

Since 1970 s,when Tuan put forward the concept of "Topophilia," "place" has been defined as a kind of "value center of perception" and has certain social and cultural meanings.With the continuous development of transportation and communication technologies,economic globalization has accelerated the connection between local areas,and the historical and cultural blocks are also at risk of being demolished or rebuilt.Faced with the impact of foreign culture,a large number of cities through the renovation of historical and cultural blocks to shape the cultural symbols and enhance the city’s competitive capital.Under this background,the social environment rooted in historical and cultural blocks has undergone a historic change,and the local identity of neighborhood residents has undergone tremendous changes in the process,arousing widespread concern in many disciplines such as sociology,anthropology and geography.The local identity has been discussed only as a measurement dimension of sense of place and place attachment.With the deepening of researches on environmental psychology and sociology,researchers have observed that place identity has unique advantages in building self-concept and differentiating others.To this end,a large number of foreign discussions have been made aborad,and local identity is used as an independent concept in empirical research.Compared with this,the domestic research on local identity is relatively late.In 2006,Huang Xiang et al introduced the "place attachment" in the local theory to the domestic tourism academia for the first time.Subsequently,scholars began to study the relationship between people and place,but most of them followed the concepts and methods abroad.After 2010,the domestic empirical research on local identity gradually increased,made pioneering exploration,mainly focus on the influence of festival and cultural stage,cultural landscape,such as the collective memory of place identity,the landlord must have case of ethnic minority regions,tourism,urban fringe,research on historical and cultural blocks less.The renewal and reconstruction of historical and cultural blocks often construct the place from many aspects.The construction of residents’ local identity is also the result of multiple factors.There are not many such literatures and no unified logic framework is reached.In order to systematically understand the impact of historical and cultural block renewal on the place identity of residents,the author sorts out the relationship between space and local identity on the basis of the existing research results: the logical system of "space-symbol-memory-identification",The local residents of Shengjin pagoda blocks are used as research objects,and the qualitative analysis is used to analyze the changes of residents’ identities after the renovation of Shengjin pagoda blocks and to explore the factors that influence the construction of local identities.The study found: the historical and cultural blocks to create a unique atmosphere and sense of history through the physical environment,functional activities and cultural atmosphere,although different residents’ perception showed different differences,but to a certain extent,it promotes the upgrading of the level of place identity.The research shows that by shaping the landscape or festivals that hold residents’ memory,it helps residents understand the local cultural symbols,triggering local residents’ memories of past life and their recognition of the place.This articlehas a guiding significance for building and identifying the local cultural symbols and improving residents’ sense of identity in the historical blocks under the background of globalization.
